They are from the Custer State Park. We should’ve listened to your missus and went there Thursday. Found out you can ride all roads except interstate. Was able to leave from the campground and go there.

The trails were pretty good. Had rain there the first couple days so they were a bit slimy. Nothing real challenging where we rode, more scenic type stuff. We went up around Nemo for a day and it was a little rockier there and a bit more challenging but not bad. I think a local told me if you want more technical stuff to look at the Spearhead area but not sure.

Glad to see you made it to the Black Hills, did you by chance swing out to the Badlands or Deadwood?
Did you hit up the Sugar Shack just a few minutes north of Nemo?
Earlier this year almost all the trails were closed due excessive rain and flooding (July 4th).
Sure glad the Hills aren’t drier than a popcorn fart this year.

No we didn’t get up by Deadwood or Lead just did a loop around Nemo. Some of the trails were still closed in wet areas. Went west of Hill City to the silica mine and south to Bear Mt fire tower and south into Custer State Park. Thinking of going back out there next year. Lot of things to see still.

As you noted, you can pretty much drive anywhere if your rig is hwy licensed (as mine is) or you have a permit that you can get.
Camping in Nemo is pretty common for trail riders. Pretty much any campground in the hills is within a few mile drive of any logging road that links up with other trails.

Good to know. We were a bit skeptical about some road riding cuz of the vague info we got from the Custer courthouse (where we got a permit) and the people at KOA on where we could ride. We finally just assumed we could drive anywhere but the interstate.
