My started just went out - I verified it's full of broken magnets. I'm having trouble finding one locally.

has anyone pull-started a 2015 pioneer? Is it even possible without a clutch?

I say no.
But then I remember someone telling me it worked. Cant remember if it was a 500 or 700. tho.
Definitely not a 1000.
Anyone remember that post?

I read this post and the next day my starter is making a loud whining noise after you let off the key. Take out the starter (super easy job) and take the starter apart. 3 of the 6 magnets are loose and you can slide them out.

Question is where is the best place to buy a replacement starter? Besides normal maintenance (including a battery) this is the first part I have had to replace on my p500. I show part #31200-HRO-F01

Thanks

Yea you can pull or push start if you don't use the girly auto transmission.

So my starter went out - about a week before it did the sounds of it had a more distinctive "whine" than usual. I opened t up and the magnets were basically shattered. $285 OEM o_O

I'm in Colorado with the machine so I had no choice. but I see aftermarket ones on amazon. has anyone ever tried one of them?

I have never tried an aftermarket part but i replaced my starter in 2017 and it cost me $85 at the dealer. I wonder why they increased the price by $200???

Maybe Honda has a new supplier?

Partzilla has it listed for $210.84.

I've used aftermarket starters for Ski-Doo snowmobiles and had good results. $65 aftermarket vs $300 from the Doo dealer. Haven't had to replace one on the Hondas yet.

Wow this is insane. I can’t believe how much they jumped! I bought a new OEM Honda starter for mine a couple months ago for $60! I had to see it to believe it (the price increase). Sorry guys! At that price, I’d buy aftermarket for sure!

Great, the starter in my '17 is making the dreaded whining noise. Less than 500 miles! Sad to hear they raised the price so much.

If I wasn't in a pinch, I'd have given the aftermarket starters a try.

I ordered an aftermarket one with plans to repair the OEM starter as a backup. Turns out if it is indeed the loose or broken magnet issue, that is the one part of the starter that is unavailable.

I used 2 part epoxy to glue the 3 loose magnets back in 3 weeks ago and the starter has worked fine everyday since. Let us know how the aftermarket one works when you get it installed. I see I can get one for about $40 on ebay.

My magnets were shattered - the rest of the starter was fine. Is it possible to buy more magnets?

If you have a local automotive electric rebuild service center, that would be the place to start looking.

Put the aftermarket 46 dollar starter in tonight. Easy job, took less than 30 minutes. Took the OEM starter apart and had 2 magnets that were loose. I’ll try to epoxy those magnets in like JollyJoker did and keep it as a back up.
