Hello, wondering if anyone has issues like this:
I have a 2019 LE, I put a second battery on her with an isolator kit etc. On the second battery I have a 54" LED light bar, and a 700W stereo. When I run the SXS and have the light bar and/or the stereo, both or just one.. the second battery only lasts about 1hr or so.. Shouldnt the second battery be getting a charge off the main system after voltage drops to a certain level? I have verified the setup is correct.. Any thoughts would be great! thanks

First off, welcome to the club! I can already tell you have pictures the rest of us would love to see! Do you mind drawing out a diagram of your wiring? If everything is for sure wired right I’d suspect a failing component somewhere.

If the voltage drops below 12.9 volts when the batteries are tied together, the isolator will isolate the batteries until the voltage is above 12.9 for 10 seconds. Basically, your second battery is drawing down so low that the isolator sees them as low voltage when they are in parallel. Sounds like your stereo is drawing too much amperage.

Hi BBlaser, I was thinking that, but I can have the stereo off and just use the led light bar. The light bar will only last for about an hour, maybe hour and ahalf. Here are some pictures of the wiring and my rig.. I hope you can make it out good enough..Yes we still have about 2 feet of snow. LOL

You are simply using more power than your alternator can produce. A LOT more. Once the battery dies, you need to shut everything down to let the batteries recharge.

Does the blue light on the isolator come on when the machine is running?

I have a yellow top optima battery under the driver seat for my AUX battery. All of my accessories run through it. I could jump start my 1 Ton pickup with my buggy if I needed to.

Yes the blue light comes on when it is running, I also notice it can also be on for a while when the machine is off
That’s all normal, my isolator light will stay on for a half hour sometimes. What’s the rating on your second battery? I wouldn’t think your radio, light bar or the combination of the two could kill your second battery in an hour while running. The 1000 puts out quite a bit of charge.

As inexpensive as digital voltmeters are, they're a no brainer with a second battery. I wired mine to a toggle switch and key on source. That way I can check the battery voltage without turning the key on. When I add a second battery, it will get its own VM.

VM and Ryco emergency flashers on my Talon

The 1000 puts out 600 watts, here’s a link of a short conversation about it.

When I first set up my dual battery over the winter, I noticed that I could very quickly drain the second battery to the point where the winch wouldn't operate. My winch runs off the aux battery.... I was only running the machine for a little while at a time and it wasn't enough to charge up the aux battery enough. I put it on a charger over night and it was much better after getting a full charge. Now that the weather is warmed up, it gets charged a lot more because I run it for longer periods of time.
