I just wanted to make a update on my attempt to adjust these. For what it’s worth I am fairly competent mechanic and have done adjustments on Toyota inline 4 and 2f 6 cylinders.
So first issue is the tight space to work. I had difficulty feeling drag. Ended up buying a bent set of gauges. Second was there was no flat head slot to adjust the lash, mine has a 1-2 mm square end that was difficult for me to adjust. I ended up using a pair of hemostats to adjust. Im sure there is a sst from honda. What a pita. Unfortunately took a few try’s to get it right. Not sure why the change. Anyway just venting

There are different companies that make the small square adjuster tool.

Motion Pro makes a set, but I prefer the cheaper multicolor handled ones from everyone else. The MP ones are sometimes too large to fit in the hole.

I'm not sure when Honda changed from the slotted screw to the square head but it's stupid.

Interesting they changed it.

Older Honda's used to have that type. I'm told the head of one of those square drive type screws fits it perfectly...

Small engine mechanics are used to dealing with stuff like that.

Working underneath a commercial mower, while it's 100 degrees out with wet stinky grass dripping in your face while busting every knuckle you have, is a joy too.

A roberts screw head matches the square end well.Drill a hole in a 3/8 bolt screw in the roberts screw then solder them together.Mines been in the tune up bag for forty years.

They don't make it easy for something you do every 600mi, or whatever. Would be nice if you could just remove one simple panel to get open access to the valve cover.
