2020 Talon 7,000 Mile Report

No repairs needed so far just the leaking left front dif seal. The improved 2021 seal didn’t fix the leak, but it appears the improved 2022 seal did fix it. I don’t trust the front drive shaft after having problems with my 2019 Talon. I marked the bearing caps and so far, no problem. I do carry a saw to cut the drive shaft in half to get it off the sub trans in case of a bearing cap failure. We have around 25 Talons in our ride group. The 2022 Talon drive shaft is the same part number, but I think Honda improved the quality control to make sure the bearing caps have a slight press fit. I made the under-roof snorkel and added a pre filter. Now the 10-80 tube or kit is available so it’s an easy and necessary upgrade. The suspension is really stiff so the sway bar really isn’t necessary. I installed the Eibach spring set. It is soft enough to require the sway bar and I’m happy with the stock stiff Honda damping on position one with these springs. It rides about the same as my 2019 Talon with the Shock Therapy upgrade, springs and dampening.

They are about the same. After a few thousand miles on both Talons, I wouldn't spend the money on the Shock Therapy spring and re-valve. Now all of the guys are having Weller Racing install new springs and doing the re-valve on the Talon X models. I expect Honda will make suspension improvements in the future but that may take a few years. If it doesn't lean much on turns without the sway bar the springs are way too stiff.

About how many miles do you do between shock rebuilds? Envy your seat time, we're trying to catch up

i'm happy with my St setup, i remeber the first ride i did with you to wayside and everyone was asking about my shocks.
i'm looking at going a different route, i just had them serviced too.

Here's your driveshaft fix.....hopefully. My u-joints were shot but the caps were still tight, 5500 miles but as you can see from the pic, we have a lot of mud/sand.

Good information, i didn't know these existed. Can i "assume" that these can be disassembled for cleaning and greasing? Not something thats needed in my world(desert)but could possibly be an advantage in yours? Fwiw, my stock shaft had the caps tacked at 2000 miles, now at 19,000 with no problems-yet

They're fairly new I believe, found it by accident while looking for other parts. I would "assume" that as long as you don't rip or puncture a boot it should be good for several years, same as a CV axle. Guess I'm gonna find out, I'll post my thoughts later this year after it's had some service, we'll be snow bound for the next 3-4 months so it'll be a while before I have a chance to try it out

Both U-joints on mine were shot, loose. The caps are still tight, I tacked them at 1500-ish miles. It was still working but we were getting some vibration.

Disappointed to hear that you had problems even though the caps had been tacked.

Just curious, if the caps were tight in the yokes why did you elect to replace the shaft not just the u-joints?

Cause I like shiny new things and haven't spent any money on the Talon lately 🤣

I will keep the OEM shaft just in case the Rhino one turns out to be a turd but it looks to be a quality piece. I do have replacement U-joints already so I'll replace them when I get bored and put it on the shelf. There's 4 T1Ks in our group, someone might need one

I bought the Shock Therapy shock set from a friend at around 22,000 miles. I don't run them long and hard enough to heat them up very much so no service yet. I will check the Eibach spring numbers and post them.

I will be getting the Super ATV 2.0 heavy duty axles and also their heavy duty drive shaft in the future. One of the forum guys has the drive shaft now.

My 2019 Talon is close to 36,000 miles so I will be needing this improved drive shaft. These improved parts will be necessary for the mud and water riders. The parts are also available for the Pioneer 1000 too. They are hard to find on the Super ATV web site and don't come up for the Talon.

I believe you may have been the first person (I know of) to point out the prop shaft issues on the Talon. I've been pushing for this CV shaft ever since, because I figured it would end up being a widespread issue.
