I have a pioneer 1000 with over 12000 miles i replace bearing between 700 and 1200 miles looking for a longer lasting bearings

That's my thoughts I have 11,175 miles all Still factory but oil lol

Mine lasted 2500 and I don't avoid mud or water. I grease then about every 700 when I do brake pads

my first set went out at 6678
I am in the hills of eastern kentucky i dont abuse it most of my driving is 9 to 15 mph
I have factory wheels and tire size
27x9x12
27x11x12
I grease mine also

Did u say you get 700 to 1200 miles on a bearing.
Or 7000 to 12000?

Had about 6k on my 700.
About 9k on my first 1000.
And have about 5k on my second 1000.
No issues running similar area on 28's and 30's.

From the factory i got almost 7000 miles
After that i get 700 to 1200 miles
I have taken them to the deal had them pressed in put them in myself no difference on the mileage

I know people grease them. I don't personally recommend. It's debatable on the perceived good vs actual good it does.

So.
I'm wondering, when you installed the new sets. Did you pack them with grease?

That's the reason for the 700 mile lifespan then.
Especially if you packed them full until you seen grease coming out. That's very bad.

Sealed bearings like these should only have a small amount of grease in them. They need space to run and packing them impedes this area and causes premature wear. It will cause the grease to be forced to churn and cause more friction and maybe even heat, even pushing the outside seal out thus letting in more debris.

There is a debate about these wheel bearing grease tools as to if they are good or just a sales gimmick that actually causes the issue they claim to prevent.

But I admit, I'm no expert.
Only know what I have researched and been told by some more knowledgeable people.

Seeing you run so many miles with short lifespan.
I recommend running a test.
- Left side greased.
- Right side factory new NOT greased at all.
Report back in 2000 miles.

The extra grease is causing the bearings to overheat and fail prematurely. Especially if you got 7000 from the factory and now only get 700-1200. Sounds like the only thing that changed was more grease in the bearings.

I have a close friend that was sponsored by Gas Gas and rode the ISDT 7 days trials in Spain, his mechanics always prepped his bike by putting more grease in sealed bearings among other things. I'm no expert either, but that's the way the factory mechanics did things.

And I just got done greasing my 4,000 mi factory bearings for the first time and read this........ Thanks guys. I guess I'll get a set coming now to prepare for the near future!
