My tow-behind spray rig has a 5.5gpm 12V pump with 20amp fuse. I had a long 14ga. wiring harness going from the battery temporarily, but had problem with it heating up and melting connections. Thought about having a shorter wiring setup coming from the 'cig lighter' plug, but was wondering how many amps it is set up to carry. If enough, I was going to use 10ga AWG wire to run back to the pump, that has a 12ga connection. Anyone know the wiring size to accessory plug or the amp capacity?

Gonna have to add a secondary circuit they’re too much for the lighter outlet. I did and use it as an auction for any 12v need.

I’ve been using the cig adapter for some time on a 60 gallon sprayer I have. Pretty sure the pump is around 5 gpm. Never popped a fuse either. Wire is never warm either.

It’s better to go direct with a fused 2 wire hookup and switch however.

I was hoping to avoid the situation I already had, which was having a temporary wire running from under the hood to the rear, by using the lighter outlet.

I run mine off the cig but its only like 1.5 gpm. I'd say put in a switch and run 12ga wire to the back of the machine and have a little SAE plug you can plug in to when the sprayer is on.

Probably will have to. I just hate running another set of wires to the back, but probably will be the best in the long run.

Yea but you can always use it for other stuff too like extra lights or something 🤷‍♂️

Go buy one of those small Honda generators and mount it to your sprayer?

Go

Go ahead and run extra... ps, I like using 12g outdoor extension cords. You’ve got 3 wires in one shielded bundle.

jacket will come off after time unless you use quality cord “SOOW” rated would be where I’d start.

Never really thought about using an ext. cord. Reckon, those mate/female couplings could be used when applied to 12V?
Absolutely could.. I usually just cut them off and use the independent wires I’ll either run 2 cords so I have a total of 6 wires 3 hot and 3 grounds so I don’t have to ground to the cage or frame, that way I usually don’t have any wiring issues later down the road from bad grounds.

I use a deep cycle battery to power my 3.8 gallon per minute sprayer. Place the battery near the sprayer. I can spray for hours before recharging the battery.

This is what my father does as well. Buy a good battery and a $20 tender from HF and don't worry about running any wires

He sprays 25+ acres at a time, just put the battery on the tender after you spray. He uses the same battery for trailer winch or any of the other 12v applications where he only uses it sporadically

Why not just get an extra battery for it and save the trouble of having to wire it in? I like everything being able to connect to the pioneer but I I weren’t using it a lot, that’s what I’d do. A couple alligator clips, a battery and ride off into the sunset. 😉

I already have the 2nd battery under the hood. As for a 3rd battery laying in the back, not to crazy about that idea. I need to spray at the camp in MO Ozarks. Up and down rough hills, the battery would be bouncing loose in the back.

Yeah, for that application, my idea isn’t going to do you any good.
