P1000 Winch mount questions

I am preparing to order a terra 45 and a mount for my P1k. I have read all the threads and from what I see, the winch is not properly positioned with regard to the bumper and fairlead location. It appears the winch sits well below the opening, and the line must come up from the bottom of the spool, then make a hard bend through the fairlead. If I was always winching to a point higher than the bumper, I wouldnt worry, but that isnt the case. I will use it for dragging downed trees and clearing roads as much as for recovery. I am looking for input from those who are using this setup, with say a KFI mount, as to how bad it is. I am also thinking, that because of the severe angle, a wire rope will be better than a synthetic running that sharp angle. A wire rope through a roller fairlead, I think, would lessen the issue. I don't want to or need to spend 5-700 for a new bumper than mounts the winch on top where it should be. Thanks, Merry Christmas.

I relocated my fairlead for a straight line pull. I like the KFI mount as it ties into the frame at the lower bumper mount and the front differential lower mount.

Just get an EMP mount and it works fine. The EMP inverts the winch allowing it to spool straight out. I'll be switching mine to synthetic when I get everything wired.

Im not sure I understand what you mean. Does the winch mount upside down so the pull comes from the top, thereby letting it spool straight out? Doesnt that defeat the reasoning behind the winch spooling from the bottom?

I had no fitment issues once I rotated the winch plate 180 degrees.

I installed on an EMP mount as well - I had to leave the bolts loose (as directions say) and then tighten them up once on the machine. I ended up making it harder than it was. Just get a bendable 14mm wrench before you start. I have everything wired up just need to test it out under load.

EMP plate works fine. If you don't rotate it 180° then the side mount bolts for the bumper to frame connections won't quite make up.

The other thing to watch for is the winch plate braces that attach to the P1K frame may not be bent down enough and could contact a frame cross-brace causing you fitment problems.

Make sure the plate is positioned properly and bend the winch plate braces and you should be good to go.

I didn't need to bend the braces once rotated.

I never had a problem with the KFI mount (and used it alot unfortunately lol). But it is at a bad angle. I have cable. I'm gonna build some top mounts for the stock bumper soon, but that doesn't do you any good now.

Limited options with that bumper. That flat spot looks like the best spot. Shelf type mount with triangle shaped sides. Bolted at top and along sides. The stock bumper is alot stronger than I thought it'd be. Joey and I winched mine using one of the tubes and it held fine.

That's good news that the bumper is strong. I haven't seen my unit yet and won't for a couple more weeks, but when I do, I'll look it over and give plenty of thought to it, and if I come up with anything worthy of suggestion I'll certainly let you know.
