P1000 Which GPS app and mount?

I want to get some sort of mount for my phone so I can see it while riding. Two questions I have are what is everyone using for a gps/cell phone mount that is pretty stable? And what gps apps is everyone using? I'm thinking about trying one of these because it doesn't take up much space and doesn't require any holes. Anybody ever used these?

I saw this one but like I said I don't have much room and trying to avoid drilling holes. I already have a stereo where yours is. I was wondering if anyone had used that Nite Ize magnet and if it holds up to off road use.

Or, I wonder if the x-grip with suction cup mounted on the windshield just above the dash would hold up.

backcounrty navigator is the app I use - I have a friend that makes custom maps for the software - all our trails are on there.
