My first question would always be, what dealers do you have around you and are they a good dealer.
You do get what you pay for and yes it does cost more for certain "colors." My son mows two acres and has a John Deere with a 60" deck, gas mower. His one complaint is that he wishes that it was a diesel. I'm not sure of the model but it is the biggest one that JD makes before their Diesel models. I have a JD tractor (2720) w/ a 62" deck (and a loader) which was way more practical for me as my yard is 2 acres+ and it has some hills...... Zero Turn = Zero Traction. I have several friends that are in the lawn mowing business and they use JD (very good dealer), Ferris (great machines, so so dealer), Dixie Chopper, Exmark and Hustler. Of course they all argue back and forth as to which breed is the best. (Glad we Honda Pioneer owners don't have to do that!)
I would not get a residential/home owner model. I find that paying the extra money for a commercial grade product, always works out best for me. Get out there and test some out. Have fun. Good luck with your shopping.
