Hey there! What oil can I use besides Honda GN4 for my 500? I live out in the country and it’s not accessible out here.

Anything that meets the specs laid out in the owners manual, which should be JASO MA rated.
Most anything can be ordered from Amazon.

I use GN4 10w-40. I live in the country as well. I use eBay, oil and filters right to my door.

Some of us use Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 Synthetic. Walmart carries it at a reasonable price. Also Jaso Ma rated.

Another T6 user here. This, to me, is the most likely to found in BFE if need be.

Been using Rotella T6 full synthetic in my diesels, dirt motorcycles, SXS’s, power equipment and more for a long time. Great results. I do however mostly use OEM oil filters. Probably not needed but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy!

Another one that uses Shell Rotella T6. I've been using it in all my motorcycles for years and in my Pioneer. I've never had a problem using T6 even on motorcycles that call for 20W-50. An added benefit is that the 5W40 is it does make startling easier in the winter compared to 20W-50.

Kilroy, what change, if any, did you notice in transmission shifting with the T6 when you changed from the original oil?

I haven't noticed any real changes in shifting when using Rotella T6 in Pioneer or any of my motorcycles

Thanks for that report, I've seen several reports of improved shifting with synthetic oil change.

Yes my metric motorcycles and the Pioneer do shift a bit smoother with full synthetic. On my Harleys, I only use the Rotella T6 in the engine and primary. I use full synthetic gear oil in the tranny since it is separate.
Like I said before, what ever oil you decide to use, make sure that it meets JASO-MA standards. I personally prefer running a full synthetic oil in my engines.

Would this be the same as JASO-MA....this is label on the T4 oil JASO DH-2, MA/MA 2; or this one made by motomaster JASO DH-2, JASO M, MA2,
