It's a resonator to reduce the intake track noise.
Think of it as a muffler for the other side, if the muffler was not dealing with hot stuff it might look like this too.

Thanks Lee... that is what I was thinking but the shape and the fact there are two threw me. I really want to put a hose barb in the intake tube and vent my gas tank to it. These are in prime real estate for me.

I thought they were abnormal-but-harmless growths. I almost had them removed but I'll keep an eye on them and see if they get any bigger or change shape.
