While cleaning up from last weekend I noticed that the paint on the frame where my bed makes contact (via rubber pads) is chipped off. I have a 2018 with maybe 550 miles now- purchased in June. I have adjusted the bed to minimize rattle so it shouldn't be beating on the frame.

Anyone else having this issue? Worth calling the dealer about? I know I could likely throw a little spray can on it and live but if this isn't common and I got a bad frame I want to say something before the whole thing is bare and rusted out.

I found some similar chatter on the 500 page, but nothing about the 1000's. Thanks in advance.

I’d say clean it up real good, then paint it and keep an eye on it. If it looks stressed before June, post update. Then decide if you want to take it in. I see some of this on my 700. Sometimes I ask a lot of this elephant.

I just checked mine out, 1,200 miles and all the paints still on. No harm in asking I suppose but that seems like something Honda wouldn’t do anything about. Worth noting here if you do inquire of them.

Mine looks the same way. I've rattle canned a lot more of this frame than any of my Honda four wheelers. I'm especially disappointed with the amount of rust that comes out of the inside of the frame as well.

Thanks for the response fellas. Called the dealer I bought it from and they told me it would have to be in house before they would contact Honda, but they had never seen it before. So I called the dealer that's closest to me and he said I could shoot him some pictures, the VIN and mileage and he would turn it in and let me know what they said.

He had not seen this either, but said Honda will typically authorize them to paint it rather than replace it. I told him if it just needs painted, I won't bother them with it. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bad batch before I let my warranty run out.

We'll leave it bare for now and I'll report back when he tells me what Honda says about it.

I'm all for claiming a warranty issue but this seems normal wear and tear? JMHO

Looks like normal wear to me. We have two P1000’s and both are the same way.

Use Rustoleum Professional Enamel semi gloss black. It matches factory paint after it’s cured and it’s probably tougher. I cure it with a heat lamp

@SuperDutyJohn @ToddACimer @joeymt33 thanks guys, this makes me feel better about it. Just couldn't find any reports searching on here for the p1000 and it freaked me out a little bit. So long as this is fairly normal and stays localized I'll get my tape and spray can out and go to town. Thanks for the color match tip @joeymt33

dnjones, My 2018 has 150 miles on it and has the same. I was thinking of buying some rubber stops and epoxying them in place.

It’s not rust you need to be concerned about, just keep riding and your Honda will keep the frame polished right there. :D

Good to know @Gumby, thanks. If I remember correctly mine does have rubber stops on the bed-frame, right where the paint is chipping. That's for sure where it makes contact, and I believe the rubber is an inch or so thick. Real weird for it to chip under thick rubber cushion like that I thought. Sounds like its not just me though. I'll hold off on adding the paint just in case the dealer comes up with something different, but I'm a whole lot less concerned now that I know if I have a bad frame, we all have bad frames :D

Hahaha well you can see the one side is pretty shiny so there may be some truth to that!

So far we are running a hair over 100 miles/month average on it. This rig is getting much more use around the farm than my RZR did too. We were just talking this morning about what kind of accessories we will be purchasing each other for Christmas- seems like shes gonna be a keeper!
