Just wanted to share my experience. I sunk my bike in a deep hole water ingested in the engine, towed the bike home cleared the water out changed the oil about 5 times. After that the transmission started shifting hard and finally just stayed in 2nd gear. I pulled the valve body located right under drivers seat. I completely separated all the components and cleaned with brake clean, make sure you pull the inner springs as well. I reassembled along with a final oil change, I elevated the front of the bike to get as much oil out as possible. My bike is shifting great now!

Glad you got it fixed. When these go into "limp mode" (as the CanAm guys call it), they stay in 2nd as well.
