Putting together a small tool kit to carry. Does anyone happen to know the bolt sizes on a p500? Do not want to carry more than I need. My 1989 fourtrax came with what is in the factory kit plus a 10-12 and a 14-17 open end. Any help appreciated.

Just carry a Gobba Wrench because they do a gob of things, some people call them a crescent wrench. I don't care much for them because they are also known as knuckle busters.

Figure on min number of wrenches, sockets, 4 screwdrivers, cresent, prybar, spark plug, regular pliers, needle nose, cutters, duct tapes, some wire, Jack and tree strap.

Biggest surprise for me was the need for something to wash out mud from the radiator.

Tool list

This list will fix most things but not a tie rod replacement.

All this goes in to a tool roll and a pouch that has been repurposed.

I haven’t unpacked from the Utah trip yet.
Used to carry the tool roll in a soft bag on the rear rack.
Been trying to switch to a carrier to hold a .50 cal ammo box.
Just rigged up a board to connect a surplus ammo box rack to the ATV rack.
Will do somthing more permanent for the Pioneer.

lee looks like a polaris owner kit. i take tp, duct tape, straps and zip ties, those in 25 years are all ive used but taking care of some body elses crap. one of the guys in the group with a polaris asked asked me if i had a tool one time i said i have a jap machine so i dont have to worry about fixing crap on the trail, i would rather drink and laugh. i have towed a popo back more times than i can remember but thats as far as it goes its too tough to get to any kind of complicated problem on any machines they have so many covers

I learned to drive in my Dads Land Rover in a place where help might be a long time coming.
The tool list is paired down to match what is needed for a honda ATV, not what is in a set.

I have had my 300 fourtrax since I bought it new in 1989. The only thing I have had to fix is a fouled plug. However, where I ride there is no cell coverage and at least a couple of hours walk out so I carry tools and recovery equipment just in case. Lee, your set looks well thought out, I was looking for what I needed. I do not like carrying wrenches that I have no need of. Thanks.

Instead of doing what I'm supposed to be doing I keep thinking about this thread.

I have needed to pulled my tools out twice in recent history.

1st time, riding RRB before @JACKAL became the resident expert, I think he was the first person ever to bend a tie rod on a p1k.
We where on the back side of the mountain (trail #26 where it separates from the road that drops down to the church) and didn't see a way to limp his crippled p1k back to camp.
Went back to camp and in the dry comfort of my enclosed trailer I pulled a tie rod off and handed to @JACKAL so @Hondasxs could take him back over the mountain to replace the tie rod.

It turns out the road that drops down to the church was half frozen, so @JACKAL drove with the bent side on the ice to the church parking lot then took his truck and trailer around to get it. I'm sure his p1k looked like a homeless vampire with a lazy eye coming down the hill.

The other time I broke the tools out was at Bull Run.
@DGann had a steering rack come apart.
Probably not his fault as he purchased the unit 2nd hand - gotta be careful, you never know what the rascal selling has done with the unit.
@joeymt33 did the heavy lifting to remove the broken rack and replace it.
I went back to the trailer, doped the rack out of my unit and handed it to @Delton who drove it back in to the bush to be bolted in to the stricken P700.

@jwfirebird maybe you are right, P500 owners don't need to worry so much about caring tools.

Good list as a review for pick and choose @lee . Those ratcheted box/open wrenches are so handy. The tool you need, but don’t have on you, is the one worth the most! Want that vise grip/crescent wrench.
