If you have ever dug into the air box on a Pioneer 1000 you know it's a 2 hour job and a trip to the tool store to buy a hex bit long enough to unscrew the cover.

Luckey Honda realized this and designed the Talon 1000 for complete toolless access to the air filter.

Just another small feature I like about the 2019 Talon 1000.

Watch them put like 10 security torx and 25 plastic push pins to get the piece of plastic off, to get to the tooless airbox. Cover LOL.

I noticed this in the stripped down pictures in the other threads. The cover is off, but you can see the latches.

Scratch that. Actually looks like in the picture it will be a couple of twist connector deals. Looks awesome to me!

I think the new design is well thought out. It is a pain, but I do mine from the front seat leaning over, trying to do it from the back will make you use all your vocabulary!

Now all we are missing is a spin on oil filter for Engine and DCT, then no more pinching O rings and chasing springs and reading which way filters go in.

FWIW no special tools needed on P1K air box cover removal if you take 5 bolts out of seat back, lift it out of way can easily access every allen head bolt from front seat with standard 5mm allen wrench.

FWIW no special tools needed on P1K air box cover removal if you take 5 bolts out of seat back, lift it out of way can easily access every allen head bolt from front seat with standard 5mm allen wrench.

Or from front seat with bed up use a 6” ⅜ extension, with a Allen on ⅜ drive.

Under 10mins to swap filters and o-rings.

Wouldn't that be nice! Toyota is going back to the canister filters???????????????

I really like the Talon air inlet pipe and the air box. I'm looking forward to seeing one in person. Probably too much work to make the swap on a Pioneer though

I would honestly prefer the old style fasteners. I do love the accessibility where it is now, but something about those clips just seems like lower quality.

Looking at the pictures with the airbox lid off, the air intake trumpets on the Talon look huge compare to the P1K. I doubt it would any kind of easy swap.
