P500 The Stereo Itch

Okay guys, as some of you know, I'm a sound system nut. I've seen a couple of the latest installs and it's giving me the itch to do some revisions. I can't fit nearly as much as @Eltobgi did in his but I'm thinking I can get a little closer. I've also been scoping out some of the new products being offered now that weren't around when I did mine. SSV Works now makes 6.5" fiberglass speaker pods for the 500 that fit up under the dash in the wheel well areas. $208 and no amp to drive them. They have also made a 10" powered sub to go under the seat of the P5. 600 watts but $300. BA!

Well I don't plan to scrap what I already have invested so I'm going this route. They're in the cart now but I haven't clicked the final key yet. If I do away with the 8" tube sub this will actually give me more room, more power and more kick. Much better quality too in a sealed box.

Figure if I'm going to add more bottom end I should spread the full range sound out a little and add these to the dash area or somewhere up front.

They spec these Boss at 300 watts peak but I'm figuring 50 watts RMS per speaker for 100 watts realistically. This would bring the system to 600 watts RMS, which is real world continuous power.
Any thoughts or feedback is welcomed. I think it'll crank and it can be turned down, can't always turn it up!

I'm not impressed with my Boss Audio ATV25B. It's rated at 400 watts and is maybe 40. In my old Jeep I was running a Kenwood 10" box with a true 150 watt amp (75x2) and it was super loud. Plus, the amp was huge. There's no way Boss is squeezing a 400 watt amp into that tube. I should have had you listen to it in St. Helen... but like I mentioned before, I don't pay enough attention on those rides.

I think the speaker pods look interesting. Have you read any reviews on them? I bet the cab and doors is helpful in directing the sound at the people.

The sub looks awesome! $300 would be tough for me to spend on it though. But that's right up your alley! It says it's designed for a 10" sub... does that mean it's just the enclosure or do you think it's a typo?

I mounted 2 of these to my roof. Holds 2x 6.5" each.
And you can do a lot to them in terms of fitting, cutting, and directional mounting.
(And they are obviously fire proof)

It's just the enclosure. Speakers not included.

Man I am envious of where you are at in this design phase of your new stereo build!!! The considerations of options is definitely exciting! I love the powered subwoofer option and have considered it myself, and would sacrifice space to add the ssv powered subwoofer which @joeymt33 installed in his ride! Not sure if I would spend that kind of money on one which was not waterproof!
The ssv speaker pods are cool as well,but I find myself wondering if these are designed to maximize sound quality or just are making the most of available space? Designing systems in SSX's is 100 X's more challenging than autos, lol...Because you have to consider those future water crossings, low hanging branches, and approaches that need to be jumped The focus has to be sound quality while protecting your stereo components from environmental hazards!
My recommendation is buy quality components and focus on the sound you are trying to achieve. 25 watts positioned correctly can sound as good if not better than 100 watts firing into space! You can invest more in speakers and less in amps using this approach! Bass, which will be my next mod to my system, requires space (a very valuable commodity when we are talking Pioneers) so the SSV sub enclosure could compliment you existing bass speakers for an even more impressive sound! Why Not????

I've had it completely submerged and it never missed a beat...."pun intended".

I put one in mine to control RCA levels to my speakers, too. But I mainly use it for a volume knob. And it works GOOD.

Is it safe in Panama?

Some songs have too much lows and I need to turn it down. Other songs need it turned up. Also, when ~20' from the vehicle and the volume needs to be higher, I turn down the knob to stop the distortion. It's water proof like all other Wetsounds products and I'm happy with the freebie from Citi card.

Panama is very safe. Even for a pale white boy like me. Now I will tell you that my company asked me to go to Columbia and I said HELL no!

I love the powered subwoofer option and have considered it myself, and would sacrifice space to add the ssv powered subwoofer which @joeymt33 installed in his ride! Not sure if I would spend that kind of money on one which was not waterproof!

Yeah, I'm not going with the SSV sub under the seat, already have the second battery and a jack mounted under there. It is built for a 10" but it can't be waterproof. And yes on the SSV pods, I think they're just making the most of the space available.
I pulled the trigger on the Rockford Fosgate 10" in a sealed box with the on board 300 watt amp for $159.. As most stereo guys know, if RF says it's 300 watts, it probably tested higher. I only run RF amps in my vehicles and they all come with a test sheet, always higher wattage than spec'd. A 10" is going to hit hard being eight inches behind me. Twice the power of the 8" I'm currently running and comes with a wired bass level knob.
I also went with the Boss 3" pods for $50 that I plan to mount up high on the dash area somewhere, I'll have to figure out where when I get them. Just want to fill the space instead of everything coming from behind my head. I know they won't be 300 watts but they come with a volume control so I can fine tune them so they won't be screaming at you.
It's all about having more control over the sound and like @Eltobgi said, I've heard 1000 watt systems that sounded like sh** and I've heard 100 watt systems that sounded perfect.The most important part of any sound system is the tuning and some just don't have the ear for it.
Ultimately it will be two 3", two 4", two 6.5" and a 10" sub. 600 watts total of clean power in a small area...it's gonna hurt!

I'm just not looking forward to gutting and rebuilding what I have going on inside the toolbox, gonna be a pita. It'll be worth it all said and done though. I'll post pics and there will definitely be a video or two when it's complete.
