Has anyone experienced stripped socket head cap screws? I bought Talon in mid October 2024. Dealership delivered on 10/16 and two days later I was installing phone holder and mirrors for upcoming trip to Michigan. I checked the accessory port to make sure my USB insert would work. Found the accessory port had no power. Next step was to remove hood and I found the power connector was loose and not connected to accessory port. I could not reach under to make the connection. Took pic of loose power connector, sent by text to salesman, no response. I had to remove the plastic cover over the dash, four socket head cap screws were to stripped to insert the Allen head socket. I took pictures and sent via text to salesman at Kendallville Powersports in NE Indiana. No response. I was able to tap Allen wrench in with a hammer and remove the four socket head cap screws. The encountered second issue. A six point bolt that holds the corner of the plastic piece was stripped. Had to use vise grips and pull up to remove. Was pretty pissed at this point. Took pic of stripped bolt and sent to salesman, no response. Has anyone had any of the same issues? I found more and the dealership is refusing to honor the warranty.

Sounds like your dealer didn't do their job to begin with, no less than 2 people check the accessory port before it leaves the service department.

As for the stripped bolts, it's been a thing for awhile, especially the bed and side skid plates. We usually only file warranty claims for transportation damage on them if they aren't screwed in fully or really blown out. Or if we have to replace body panels due to damages and those bolts are in the way of replacing the panel.

If you don't mind me asking, is it a 2 or 4 seater?

2 seater. I agree on not checking machine to verify everything is working but Kendalville Powersports has many one star ratings as far as service and keeping customers happy. I wanted to install shoulder harness and bolts holding original seat belt were completely stripped and unuseable without repairs. I look it as dealership sold me a vehicle with defective parts. Will be worth the time and expense to file in small claims court. Thanks for your response.

With all due respect, you knew BEFORE you spent your money there that they were a poor dealership relative to 'service and keeping customers happy', yet you still patronized them. That was your first mistake. Sorry about the tough lesson.

When I removed my doors from my T1K2 FLV, half the heads on the cheap ass hinge bolts rounded off. Had to pound the wrong size impact socket on several of them to remove them. I replaced them with higher class versions (10.9, IIRC). I've had the upper cowl and other nearby panels off multiple times without any bolt issues, though.

🤣 This is not uncommon. I have a 2024 Talon X2 LV and I have replaced more than 35 of those bolts from all over my Talon. When I started buying accessories and upgrading, it seemed liked every 4th one I tried to remove was cross threaded and rounded out in the socket head. Can't speak to your dealership issues, my Honda dealer here is absolutely horrible.

Scoop, i purchased a Rancher and Rebel 300 from same dealership. Kurt Hayden took care of his customers. I was not aware of new ownership and ratings on Google until after buying the Talon. Have since purchased a SCL 500 but from a dealership in Ohio. Entirely different experience there.

Agree - the baby is made - sucks to pay that much for junk fasteners -but once it’s touched - not much to do other than deal with it whether yourself or just take back and let them deal with it.

I’ve had all that stuff off multiple times as well - was just super carefull and if it looked like it needed a tap tap with the hammer before spinning off - did that - also used a ratchet - wanted to get a feel if it was going south

Mind me asking what dealership in Ohio?

That's where we're located.

We bought a Talon 4-seater in October 2024 and it has stripped and cross-threaded bolts all over. That has been the hugest PIA so far but I will say that @Hello_Darkness is correct that the bolts on the side skid plates were the worst, at least that we have experienced so far. One of them broke completely and it's just hanging out in there, we didn't replace that one as we can't get it out with the tools we have at the house.

The bolts for the seatbelts we had to take out to install 5-point harnesses were also a PIA but that was more so because of the Loctite they used. We went and got a breaker bar and that has been a tremendous help.

☝️ this! All of our accessories have been pretty quick and easy to install, except for all of the trips to Home Depot for new freaking hardware when they rely on you to reuse your OEM bolts 🤦‍♀️

Bought my P1000-5 last September. When I got it home I discovered two M12 nuts missing on the upper back corner of the cage. Told the salesman on the phone and he said he will have new ones ready at to parts counter, when I got there I talked to the service manager and he thought it was no big deal. I told him what if they came off on the 70mph freeway and bounced into someone’s windshield and caused an accident, he just shrugged…..I will NEVER go back there…never!

I didn't throughly read this thread but ...

I had to remove some Allen head fasteners from the Talon's bed. I tried using the proper sized Allen head wrench and could feel it starting to strip as I applied torque. I had read about impact drivers and thought - yeah, sure, let's add an uncontrolled amount of force to this fastener and see what happens. So I did, and the damn things just spun right out, without issue; it was almost like they were in finger tight.

A bit more info - I've been a tool guy my entire life, no stranger to tools but this really opened my eyes. These things are magic. Yeah, sure, yer thinking - pull the trigger and strip the head but that isn't what happens ... the damn things will spin out like they're finger tight ... honest. DO NOT reinstall with this thing iffn you ever want to remove that fastener again.

One of these, pick your color -

I have bought 19 Honda side by sides. All had some stripped bolts, mostly in the skid plate. I have been able to repair almost everything with a 6x1 tap and die. I always remove the skid plates to mark the driveshaft bearing caps and inspect all the wiring, coolant hoses, and brake lines. Some have been fairly good, and a few had a stupid butcher doing the install.
