Attach your winch remote to your gearshift....I just electrical tape to the handle with about 20 wraps of tape....so you can be raising/lowering plow while changing direction. Get a suicide knob for easier one-handed steering. Chains make a huge difference....I plow in 2wd if snow is light. Push your banks back as far as you can while the snow is fresh and soft.....unlike a blower you can't place the snow as easily, if you don't plan ahead and temps stay cold, you'll have a pretty narrow drive by the middle of winter. Power angle would be great....I just can't justify doubling the cost of the plow to save myself 5-10 mins flopping the plow side to side each time I plow.

1) Steel cable on the winch would be the first thing I would replace. It has a tough time taking the constant angle of the plow and if it breaks it is a pain to repair. Either upgrade to a synthetic winch line or even use a old ratchet strap or flat tow line to lift the plow. You will be happier in the long run.

2) I have a gravel drive way and until the ground gets frozen the cutting edge always pushes gravel all over the grass and it takes me all summer to remove it. I am going to try the pipe trick (using a pipe on the bottom to keep the plow from digging in) tomorrow and I'll let you know how it works.

3) Don't let your wife plow!!! This is the most important one. I let her use mine once last year and now I can't keep her out of it. I guess I'm going to have to hide the key from her.

4) Enjoy. Using the Pioneer for snowplowing is actually kind of fun and breaks up the monotony of the long winter.

I bought a cheap tow strap cut it in half. Zip tied the ends together so it sucks it around the drum. Works great. Pvc works great but does break fairly easy. Probably should use sch80 pvc.

I actually did the same thing with the strap. I bought a 2" x 12 foot tow strap from harbor freight and cut it in half. I left the steel cable on last year and removed the hook. I attached the my 6 foot strap to the cable end and had plenty of room for it to wrap a couple of times. The nice thing about a flat strap is if you accidentally let too much out, over time it won't rats nest in the spool. Saves a lot of trouble for later. The nice thing about the tow strap too, is that it is very hard to break it. On my atv plow I had the synthetic rope and on occasion I would break it if I tried to pick the plow up with it buried in a snow drift. I learned to back up before starting to lift the plow up. I was thinking about the pvc pipe but I'll try and piece of steel pipe tomorrow.

I'm still plowing with an ATV setup - too cheap to purchase a new everything,

With a gravel drive way I run the bottom of the plow blade an inch off the ground.
The little feet have worn out once in 10 years with 800' drive.
Doesn't move the gravel around and the thin layer of snow melts off pretty quick.

I have a steel cable and an old steel cable.
I switch them out using the old one for the plow.
Also the old one is like 6 feet long now. It's broken multiple times.
This is a major hassle and not recommended.

I try to push snow tot he same side all the time.
Run down the center of the drive pushing to the north.
Return pushing to the south.
Repeat.

Otherwise @pkcal seamed to cover a lot of the basics.

Yeah my wife wouldn't touch my old ford 9n and I am afraid to let her get behind the wheel to plow now, I might never get to plow again

I preferred the 700 for plowing over the 1000. Just because of the tranny. 1000 plows fine but 1st in the 700 was a perfect ratio for me.
