Still have no word on getting a 520 soon in my area.
There is a '18 500 up for sale with 800 miles for $8700 with a tiny bed on the back which seems a bit high.

Since we sure could use one right now I'm thinking about buying the 500, and selling it once a the 520 comes in but I don't want to take a loss if the used 500 is overpriced.

Any input would be appreciated

Everything is over priced right now. Two things happened - 1. Covid killed production. 2. Everyone wants to avoid people because of Covid and the outdoors provides that so the numbers of people wanting to buy have increased dramatically. Supply and demand. If the 500 passes your inspection (not beaten by a mechanical cretin), buy it. I think the market will be high for years, if you like the 500, buy a 520 when they become available and sell the 500.

Well, normally I would say that P5 is overpriced. I didn’t pay that much for mine new. But things are different in the age of Covid, so I don’t know. 🤔

Honda LOWERED List Price on 2021 P500 to $ 8499.00 ( 3yrs Newer ) better resale later. & they are starting to show up at dealer's.

If the price on the 2018 was $1000.00 ( or More Less ) you might come out OK. ( List on 2018 was $9299.00 )

NOV. 2020 I sold a 2017 Red P500 375 miles Roof & Windshield , Fender Flairs , FT & Rear 2in. Receivers for $7570.00

Depending how bad you need & want SXS -- Patience is going to save you $$$$$.

With the P500 rack, you can add a box, or whatever you can dream up. The P520 bed has too little capacity for my chores.

It's for my gal, haul the tools and pull a little trailer and the 500 would do.

However the 520 has a bigger motor, fuel injected, upgraded suspension, shift mapping etc. plus the bed which I feel is worth the additional $1000 over the 500

The P520 sure is a Nice Machine.
If you can live With-Out Dump box -- P500 is the better buy $ for $ -- saved $ 1000.00 can go toward acc.

Used a truck boxliner --made a box --to put on rear rack.
Just another spin on the subject.

All of the Honda SxS’s are fuel injected.

suspension on the newer 500s appears to be the same as the 520. Dual rate springs I think is the only "upgrade". My understanding is that in about 2018 the 500's got the dual rate springs. You could look up part numbers on current 520s and 500s and see if there is any difference in the springs and shocks. I actually like that I could go with what works for me as a box. Personally I don't have a use for a dump box. that just means that whatever I have in it i would have to bend down and pick it up off the ground if I dumped it. Not like you're going to be hauling 3 yards of gravel in it. Leaves are no big deal to sweep out with your hand, and I want to pick firewood off the box and stack it not dump it on the ground and pick it up to stack it. Dump boxes frequently rattle depending on the latch mechanism used - it wears and gets loose. Dump box may offer better access to the motor which would be a plus. Maybe the 520 has noticeable power difference but I'd have to drive one. Never seemed like the 500 ran out of power for my uses. 520 is nice, can't say if its $1200 nicer.

To give you an idea of the market in the upper midwest, last week my dad bought a used 2020 500 with 220 miles, 4 months remaining warranty, EMP windshield and roof, mirrors, KFI winch mount (no winch), ball hitch to put in the receiver, tire chains, and a few other goodies for $8500 from a private party. We had called within hours of it showing up on CL. They said they had multiple calls after we committed to it over the phone. The machine was absolutely like new. no rust on the muffler even, all miles were running around on a gravel road. I had called the dealer and besides waiting until at least July, a 500 would be about $9000 out the door with sales tax, and the 520 would be about $10300 with tax. And of course the new ones would have no accessories. The windshield roof and winch mount were must haves and add up to close to a $1000. So we figure it was about a $1500 savings over a new one, that may or may not be available this summer. Moose brown too which is an awesome color.
