Hi y'all- need some opinions, I finally get to build a new decent garage/shop, and due to the ravages of time, the 'Ol back isn't what it used to be....

So...I figure I should treat myself to a lift to tinker on my toys. I know some of you have a 2 post lift, any recommendations on a decent one? I can't believe some of em you see for $2K can be worth a damn. Couldn't hardly get the steel (chinese or otherwise) for that. I'll probably have a 10' ceiling, so looks like I'll be stuck with a baseplate style. Are there any other options out there? Mostly be using it for tire/wheel, suspension, oil changes etc. Would like something decent enough that I could do some minor automotive work, so is something in the 9000 lb. range about right?

Any and all opines welcome, thanks!

I have been thinking of getting a lift and am looking at the QuickJack system, but it only lifts a max of 7k. I like that it is portable and can be hung on the wall when not in use. Good luck on your search and let us know what you get.

Go to a few of the local car dealerships and ask who maintains there lifts. I got a 5 year old American made [HASHTAG]#7000[/HASHTAG] twin post used and installed for less than $2k.
Dont think you will get a [HASHTAG]#9000[/HASHTAG] lift in a 10' ceiling height!!!!! Mine is 13' and just barely got it in.

I second Bendpak, I was amazed at what they can be purchased for.

I have a QuickJack, because my garage ceiling is only 9'. It works great. Still have to use the creeper, but the vehicle is far enough above me that I can see it clearly... old guys will understand...

Check out Greg Smith Equipment, i just purchased and installed Atlas pv10hp. @joeymt33 suggested them & very good to work with, there new designs are both symmetrical and asymmetrical all in one. If you haven’t built your shop yet, I would consider changing the height to at least 12’. It will not cost that much more,& you will not regret it.

My lift is a Forward brand 9,000 lb assymetrical lift. It has lifted numerous 4 door dually diesels in the last 20 years. It requires a 12 foot ceiling and 6 inch slab but the ease of leveling and lifting a vehicle is a breeze. 9,000 pounds to me was just a number, if the hydraulics would lift it to the safety catches it got lifted. Probably had 10-11,000 pounds on it before. If it was uneasy when lifted I had two tall (6-7 ft.) jack stands that I placed under it to make it steady.

We used Rotary lifts at the Ford place. They had metal extensions that leveled and contacted the frame which looked to me like an area for slippage. My Forward lift had rubber pads with different pipe like extensions which looked more secure to me. The top pic is what I used the bottom is what the Ford place had.

Greg smith equipment is where I got my Atlas 9k. It’s used constantly and it’s never had a problem. It’s been installed for just over 5 years now. I’ve done absolutely zero maintenance and it cost me $1495. I picked it up my self as it was a 2.5 hour drive.

I don't have as much room to work but I make the most of my space. Lift is a 6k wheeltronics. It's light, portable, easy to store and runs on 110v. Since I only have 9' under my garage doors it gets the job done and it stores well under my Bronco when it's not in use

Wow,
Nice shop!
Thanks, finally have it finished. I tore down my old shop my dad and I built in the 80’s and built this one. My oldest daughter actually cried when she came home and seen the old shop gone. She said “we had too many good memories in this shop. I’ve been wanting this for over 10 years now, finally after a lot of long hours and sleepless nights, it’s done. Now I can spend time with my grand daughter and make some memories with her.

She had to be the first to use the lift. Lol
She couldn’t wait.

What kind of finish is on the floor? That's the finish I wanted in my shop but it is nowhere nothing like that. Guess that's what happens when you dont do it yourself. Nice shop by the way.

Get some mats for under vehicles and don’t get any gas on it.
