  2. 1000-3
need a little help. i have a roadlife 52 inch led light bar. i have installed a dual battery system with position and negative bus bars.
This light bar I have has a 30 amp fuse. Can I run that through the fuse box or does it need to go directly to the battery?

Technically it would work either way. You certainly don’t need two fuses on the line but that’s kinda like saying you don’t need 36” of wire for a 24” wire run. Sure it adds a little bit more resistance in the circuit but it would still work.

You can trigger it to come on with a relay. A relay is a "switch within a switch." When triggered it allows power from the battery to the light and protects a switch not rated for that many amps.

They may not help, if I misunderstood the context.

The idea of separate fuses is that if there is a problem, such as a short in a device or wiring, the fuse will blow but everything else will still work. Only a few things are connected to the battery directly, such as the starter motor and often the winch, so extra care needs to be taken with wire routing etc.

A light bar requires a significant amount of current, more current than many switches are rated for. So, it's common to switch power to the light bar using a relay. In turn, the relay is controlled by a panel switch.

If buss bars are used, it's good practice to fuse the positive feed wire close to the battery.
