Looking for some info on a pull behind mower. Strictly for maintaining approximately 4 acres of grass. Can get tall between cuts. Currently use a 5’ brush hog behind my TO20 Ferguson. Tractor is getting tired. Thanks.

I have been mowing 5 acres with a Swisher finish cut mower for 16 years (same mower) and an ATV.
We have 1 acre of lawn and 4 of fields.
Some years there is corn or cows in the fields so no need to mow as much.

Mower maintnace is critical to keep it going.
I have 3 sets of blades that I rotate as needed.
Need to rebuild the blade spindles every other year and a new set of belts every year.
This mower is no where as robust as the brush hog.

2 years ago I finally broke down and bought a brush hog to use behind my TE20 tractor.
The tractor is the way to do the fields (still, using the tow behind on the lawn).
Much more capable to run through tall grass ~ waist high.
This means I don't need to stay on top of the fields, the mower did not like foot tall grass at all.
Needed to raise it up all the way for a 1st cut and make a 1/2 pass to keep from torching the belt, then do a 2nd cut.

But, I'm kind of partial to the tractor, 1949 TE20 parks next to my 1947 Studebaker coup.
So that colors my thinking.

Foot note, I keep telling my wife I'm going to let the yard grow and bail it but she hasn't approved that plan.

I bought a swisher rough cut mower last year to maintain trails on hunting property. It is a beast and will cut though anything I can run over with the p500.

Need to cut your trails East to West and put up ground blinds on the North and South sides, that way you can hunt any wind.

I have a 5 ft Troy Built that is self powered that I bought when I had a lawn care business and it worked great pulling behind my 700-4. I've pulled it through up to 4 feet of weeds and bout 3 qtrs inch sapplings with no bog down. Is an easy pull so am sure the 500 will pull it. Wish you were closer would make you a great deal.

An alternative option..... I bought a ProMow Reel mower. The hybrid model. Started with 3 reels (60”) and added 2 more reels after 2 seasons for close to a 90” cut. I’ve done 4 seasons. Aside from sharpening the reels once per year it has been maintenance free. I cut about 3 acres of lawn. Can share more if you are interested.
