I'd be surprised if it was there with the on sale date being so far away.

It says they will be at the Michigan State Fair on Sept 4th. Only 30 minute drive so I will try to be there.

I think I'm going to take a day and go check it out- if nothing else I'm hoping to test ride a Pioneer 500 on something other than a parking lot.

According to the dealership closest to the event they should definitely have something to test ride...

In this news report the Honda rep only mentions the Pioneer 500 and 700-- so probably no dice tomorrow on sighting a P1000 in the wild!

Well, no P1000 to demo ride, but they have a preproduction model on display! Looks solid, very solid. Some of the plastics are rough and pre-production on this example.

<Edit- added some notes and comments>

Some notes on what I thought of the P1000 on display:

The build and design seems top notch. The wheel wells seem easily cleanable with few places for mud to accumulate. CV boots seem well protected.

While the seats are not adjustable, they seem well positioned for comfortable riding for most people. The seats are quite comfortable and have almost a gel-foam feel. The center seats was surprisingly comfy with good leg room. The wheel well pushes in on the driver's left foot area but not as severely as the P500. There is a textured foot area higher up to allow the left leg to be stretched out a bit. Should be a fairly comfortable ride with 3 people. This model didn't have the tilt steering wheel / paddle shifters.

Controls and gauges were easily read and reached and the shifters moved and locked in a smooth and solid fashion. The 12v power outlet seemed a bit low and out of the way however. Doors worked well and were solid.

The Honda rep didn't have a key- I suspect they weren't allowed to start it in public to quell any pressure to test ride it. A central NY dealer (who was as anxious as everyone to get behind the wheel of one) was told they should start receiving them late September/early October, and were told they'd get 2/month and would start out with the 5 seater deluxe.

Serviceability seems to be pretty easy and neat from what I could tell- the Honda tech that was present was eager to get ahold of one to take it apart. Apparently he was going to get the chance at some sort of Honda event in the next week or two.

Here are some more photos of the pre-production P1000...

The left wide of the wheel well is recessed, which isn't great, but necessary to keep things compact. They nicely designed a textured area higher up to allow the left leg to be stretched a bit.

You can see the air intake pipe swooping toward the back. Everything looks sealed up well.

Underhood storage shows the intake (black, left side) with a small storage area above it. It looks like it could hold an extra battery. There's easy access to the wiring behind the dash.

The air intake is under the hood. The above photo shows the opening with the foam pre-filter removed. The intake swoops down beneath the cabin then back up to the motor. I'm not sure if it had a drain plug on the low spot in case the intake lets in some water- this has been an issue in some Ranger's I ride with- it will be interesting how this air intake works when plowing into some deep water.

The underside looks pretty clean re:mud collection and cleanability.

The oil filter access (internal) looks easy to get to. Right below it is a smaller, similar port labelled DCT- does the transmission have it's own small filter?

The muffler looks decently protected.

Bed lifted- the hydraulic assist works smoothly.

You're welcome- will try to add some comments later tonight- to difficult on the phone... :) Rode the p500 4 times and the P700 twice around the track- too many rules to have enough fun though... ;-)

Looks like there was a lot of thought put into adds.

Looks like spot for a second battery and a winch contactor under the hood.
That would be awesome, much cleaner than the 700.

I wish I would have checked out the under hood air intake better after looking at my pictures... Interesting.

A couple but they are not great. There is a small center cubby. The glovebox door looked sizable but I didn't think to open it. The one photo shows the center seat leg room.

I can see why they don't want this one started, no brake line going into the brake master cylinder reservoir

Is the engine actually right behind the drivers seat?

Hey scottn57, how tall are you, I'm 6'5", hopefully there's more room in the 1000 cause my knees hit the dash in the 700. That's the only thing holding me back from purchasing the new pioneer 1000. Pics show the dash looking different so I'm hoping!
