I never stop designing! It only costs me time until I decide to have something built. I like throwing these little teaser screenshots out there too!

The last few weeks I've been racking my brain over a certain new design that I started sometime last year. It restarted recently with one of those 3 am ah-ha moments! Picking up some prototype parts this week to see if this is even possible. Stay tuned for more info.

New design

My Fusion skills are improving with each new design model. This parametric world has taken me a LONG time to catch on but I'm finally coming around the bend. The more I learn the more the impossible becomes possible. Now the fun is beginning!

Imma #oleguy but believe any man worth his salt knows how to weld and how to use Fusion 360. I can weld, including aluminum (if it's not too thin) and learned the basics of Fusion 360. Both will open doors for the rest of your life - dream it, engineer it, build it - you'll have no limitations.

Last I looked, Fusion 360 is free to hobbyists, there are no excuses. If an ole guy who hates computers with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns can figure it out, so can you young bucks.

We have autocad subscriptions at my day job that include Fusion. Even if I had to pay for it at $500 per year it's a bargain for business use.

Shapr 3D on the ipad is good too but I don't use it with Fusion access.

I don't want to give everything away yet. Following the reveal tactics of the OEM marketing teams. It's coming in due time.

This project started over a year ago but inspiration at 3 am allowed me to complete a prototype design in 2 days! And 8 days later I have a prototype in hand. This is exactly what I live for!

Edit: All those LEGO kits my family bought for me as a kid have been paying off!

I love it when a concept puts itself together in my head, it goes from 'how am I going to do this' to - KABOOOOM, and it's on -

Here's the big secret project. An adapter kit to run an AEM air filter in the air box. This filter would be washable and reusable but not require oiling. I still have some fine tuning to do and actual functional testing but it fits in the airbox. I had to countersink new flush screws so the air box cover would close. No pictures of that yet. This will get a run on the dyno soon too.

The ultimate goal is to have a VERY good Desertcraft primary air filter in this kit. I'm waiting to see ff they can make a panel filter for me like this. That could be many months out though.

The base plate is sealed with an oversize foam oring in the airbox groove. But I'm thinking also, the base plate could be sealed with silicone since there is no reason to remove it to change the filter. I would leave these as raw aluminum too because it looks good like some classic car part.

I thought for a moment you where working on one of two self clearing surfaces in the house, the washing machine lid or the deep freezer lid.
But no - for some inexplicable reason the dryer dose not have anything piled on it (well, it dose now). :p

This looks really good, question though. Since you have a rigid aluminum base and aluminum keeper top frame. Why not go from 8 bolts to one by including a self clamping hinge one one end and a single tool free bolt on the opposite that allows the top frame to apply pressure down 360 degrees from it rigid design tolerances. If a guy is going to reinvent the wheel, make it easy to service.

My only beef with Honda is having to fux with a dozen bolts to change an air filter when I can swap out my truck with popping only 4 spring clamps.

I've considered that but it would require more design configuration with limited space above.
If I can do what I think I can do once desertcraft gets onboard, then I won't need the base plate. With desertcraft I can make the filter size larger and deeper than the Honda filter for more surface area.
And the rear trumpet is in the way to make a hinged clamp. I could possibly get around that with some design changes. It's a tight space to work in! I'm convinced Honda spent more time making the complex air box than any other component on the Talon.

But do you give honda credit for eliminating the bolt holding the cover on vs the P1K and replacing them with 42 spring clips?
Noooo.
It needs not be more complicated than my 1986 ATC 250R. WTF Honda engineers get bored since bean counters and lawyers won't let y'all make cool stuff any longer.

Hey let's fux with the air box cover design that's working for the last 45 years.

I'm sure it gives them great pleasure sitting at their desks, middle of the work day, knowing they have have annoyed John Doe #2.
We all know the truth, ever since a mechanic slept with an engineers wife, never again would easy tool free service be a feature, not to mention an oil change with 1 drain bolt and oil not splashing on frames and skids.

I swear someone pulled a train on the RMAX engineers wife to make 5 drain bolts to change engine oil.

The Talon has a dyno date for Friday. It's going to be cold down here again this week, at least in the mornings.

Talked to Desertcraft today. They are on board with making my panel filter to my size specifications. Not sure how long this process will take to get a final product but they are moving on it. Until then I will probably ship products with the AEM filter.

I've got to figure out some kind of special bundle price for people that may want the AEM conversion and the pre-filter kit. Still a lot of work to figure out some details...in my spare time.

Dyno date got postponed 1 week due to the tech being sick.

Desertcraft seems to have put this project in high gear. Hopefully we will see some progress soon. Mark is very interested in my designs and bringing this air filter to reality. We've been tossing ideas both ways to make this happen.

Desertcraft is the direction I want to go for a couple reasons.
1. Their primary air filters are superior to just about anything. High efficiency filtering down to 0.3 micron. They have proven filtration with RZR, Can-am and KRX round air filters.
2. It's a dry filter for easy cleaning and no mess oiling.
3. Mark is just a super guy to work with. He's always so helpful to me, and I'm nobody!
