P1000 Needing some advise

We have a 18 1000-5 deluxe. Bought new in 19. It now has 4100 miles. Mostly road with a few trails until the last 2 times we went on a ride. We went to bunker mo with some friends. They all have sport sxs's. There are some rough trails but really We didn't have any problems keeping up. Although we did feel it more in the rougher stuff. The first time we went riding there, our shift motor went out and had to be towed 2 1/2hrs back to the truck. We went last weekend for the second time and the cooling fan mysteriously quite working. Got to 3 bars but didn't over heat. After messing with it and switching fuses, started it back up and the fan started working. We are going back in October but the wife is scared to take it back out there. The worst thing is there is no phone service out there. Anyone have any advise?

This is with a new riding group. My regular group that we ride with, if something happens, we are getting back. I'm the same, if someone breaks down, I have no problem towing back. They were all hesitant to tow me back. Then the one couple with the teryx said they would. And away we went. Lol

Explain to yer wife that the adventure doesn't start til the sh!t hits the fan. They're different than us and, unfortunately, live a fearful life.

I'm sure your fan problem is the computer glitch. There is a reflash to fix it. I haven't had mine fixed either. Happened to me 4 years ago. When you turn the key, make sure you go straight to start and it won't happen. Or others say you can turn key on and wait for it to do whatever it does and then start and it won't happen. I know for a fact that going straight to start will not cause the fan not to run. I've seen it happen on my buddies machine also. His is a 2018 like mine. I told him numerous times to turn key straight to start. I watched him pause for a second and then start, 3 miles dowe the trail he was overheating due to fan not running. I got tired of having to act like his dad and tell him over and over. He's not had it happen in over 2 years now.

I wouldn't ride with people that wouldn't tow me back.
I rode with some people that I had never met, met them at the trailhead and got invited to join (I was solo as usual). It was an overnighter for them and I intended to ride halfway and head back alone but 3 others decided to head back also.

About 5 miles from the trailers, guy blows a belt. No big deal, circle the wagons and escort him back. Nope, I was the only one that stayed with him all the way back. WTF? (he was able to limp back, didn't need towing but I had the gear if necessary)

I didn't even know these folks but if I leave with you, I'm coming back with you, one way or another.

I don’t know if you are, but when I go on a trip with the P1k5, I do a detail check of everything basic (air filter etc), after I wash the rig. While not comprehensive it does go a long way to limit the little things that could happen. Little things like washing the bugs outta the radiator and checking the level do matter.

I have the fan override too, but I also use my heater too on big hill climbs if I must.

If your shift motor goes out, you can manually get it into a gear to limp it to safety or back to camp safely. It’s in your manual on how to.

I almost never ride with a group…but I’m used to operating heavy machinery in remote locations with only basic tools and parts…but when I do go, I bring my cell booster and set it up in my P1k5. I have yet to encounter a place where I couldnt find a signal at the top of the next hill etc. I have the approach of not getting home, but limping the rig to a point I can make a phone call or walk to where I need to.

The other path you could take is to leverage the wife’s concern and get a new machine 😃

I don't really want a new machine. All the crew cab are 20ft long. The rmax is the only thing that catches my eye.

I'm not one to leave anybody behind. I am always there to help. However long it takes. Some people just aren't like that

Every time we ride there is a risk of a machine failing in some way, and it doesn’t matter what brand you have!!!! All you can do is put the odds of a good outcome in your favour. Make a though check of your machine before you go. Fix things that are questionable every time, all the time. Ride with friends that have your back. If your riding with some you just met, have a conversation or assume your on your own and make plans accordingly….. which might include not going.
As for communication, I do a lot of remote hunting so I carry an Inreach satellite communicator….. best thing ever. My whole family knows where I am and can track my route in real time. Great peace of mind for everyone. I might look brave, but really I’m a big chicken and won’t ride with someone who is stupid brave. Just sayin. Ride Safe.

I would have to get the 4 seat for the kiddo. But I need a bed. How does it compare to the pioneer all around
At the risk of starting a s*** show. No cabin heat , no rattles or squeaks. Much better interior, comfort , I have fox podium 2.0 shocks twice the suspension travel , 30 inch tires , all lighting is led , beadlocks all factory it needs nothing. Ton of power also. I've owned two pioneers. No regrets what so ever. Pioneer is not in the same league.

Much better interior, comfort , I have fox podium 2.0 shocks twice the suspension travel , 30 inch tires , all lighting is led , beadlocks all factory it needs nothing. Ton of power also. I've owned two pioneers. No regrets what so ever. Pioneer is not in the same league.

I have a SPOT tracker for my sister. When I leave Denver, she knows, as long as the dot's moving, I'm ok. I've been single for a long time and not one to check in with anyone. Calling to report, doesn't work for me, since much of my travel is without signal and I just don't like checking in with anyone, been single too long. That and, being retired (old), cell phones are the debil. 🥵

Sis can watch the SPOT and have a beer ready for me when I pull in her driveway in Phoenix. :cool:
