wow I had no idea that mud would be this much of a problem but before I bought the 1000-5 i saw the taper in the bed and wondered if it would be an issue. Can some of u guys offer some insight? 1 how they mount? 2 much damage to mount them 3 noticed that the 1000-5 kit doesn't include the little piece that goes past the roll cage like on the 700's does this allow mud to be tossed up to the seat belts. 4 are they durable the way they mount or will they get ripped off rubbing trees etc 5 does anyone else make better ones? I am running stock tires for now because i regretted doing bigger tires in the past on polaris builds because of performance. thanks in advance for everyones input this forum is invaluable to new Honda owners especially broke ones like me coming up on 21k in costs lol I'm trying to research every mod as much as possible thanks again

The mud busters are a great investment. They could be better though. I will explain with pics....

Here's the front.

They do a good job of stopping the mud from slinging all over the vehicle. However, if you go fast, they don't stop mud from going vertical and then blowing back on you. (I hope to fix this soon) here's another pic to illustrate.

Now for be back. Again, they do a decent job but could be a lot better. Here's pics after a muddy ride...

You can see the mud slings up just past the end of the flare. Another pic....

All the way too the roof.

My solution was to add an extension.

This extension is held in place by three push pins and it's easily removable when working around home when i need the dump bed. When I want to play, I pop it back into place.

Hey Joey, I don't plan to really mud ride, but of course some trails have mud and I'm not going to turn around just because of that. What I noticed was that the stock front really does pretty well, so I just ordered mudbusters for the rear. Have not installed them yet. What did you make your extensions out of?

Thanks,

Waylan

thanks for taking the time to give that info extremely helpful!! best illustration Ive seen on the mud busters yet.I wonder in the back where u have the slit if u could open that up and use brush material like on the bottom of some doors so u would not have to remove them when dumping and where did u get that material??

maybe something like this on each side of flap that goes around roll cage so it wouldn't have to be taken off and on?

joeymt33 would u say that u like how they mount? would u say that u think they will hold up to abuse without ripping off? does it use stock mounting holes or do u drill your own? thanks a lot amazing pics for all to see

I actually worked with MudBuster on the development of this set pictured below for the rear of the P700. I used a brush like you mentioned.

They sent this flare first. I added the piece around the roll bar

Later I added a brush
12571215dda26c52a850bade90ee264b

Then they sent me this set
59fcba97d816ea6f22497912f540986e

I added a piece below the flare for the last version
B050acb7d71e832a939cc43471f1e4c5

This may give you some ideas. Right now I'm liking the version on the P1000.

They are not hard to install and don't leave anything noticeable if removed. (I never plan on removing them, and never did on the P700) they seem sturdy and I actually busted one on a cold day when the plastic was brittle and I hit a tree with it. It did not damage any OEM plastic or the mounts.

There are some self drilling screws so yes it will make some holes in your beloved Pioneer.

Just wanted to contribute to the thread - I have ridden a few times and only really noticed mud slinging coming from the back on our P1000-5. Wife and I stay clean/dry, but the little ones end up with some stuff thrown on them. Ordered a rear set of the mudbusters and installed them this past Friday. Remove the rear wheels before you begin - and an extra set of hands is helpful even though not necessary.

After installed, we went for a night ride Saturday night at the same place we went before - except this time we had a recent rain so more mud at the creek crossings. I am happy to report that the mudbusters work very well for my riding style with stock wheels & tires. I don't go out looking for mud and I don't try to sling it everywhere, but some crossings require some wheel speed/momentum and we had very little get anywhere in the rear seat area. I actually dont think any got on the kids. They solve the problem of mud coming in between the door/wheel well too, and it seems easier to rinse the rear wheel wells. I would definitely purchase these again.

very helpful post thanks for taking the time to do that mine are on the way!!! nice to know it helps with the rear doors etc as I was wondering if this product would help with that as well. I have noticed that some people had added an extension to the end of the mud guards in rear do u think that will be ness? and also how do u think they will hold up as far as being brittle in cold weather and do u think they are secured nice and strong? thanks again

I don't think the extensions will be necessary for me (at least right now). I know Joey has added extensions to his, but he may ride faster through wet areas? Or play/spin more? They seem plenty strong and the mounting is stout. I think Joey said he broke one in the cold - but it doesn't get down below freezing much here in Louisiana. If/when it does I probably won't be out riding.

Does anyone know if these will fit on a P1k?

Thanks!

John

They have a different set for the Pioneer 1000. Check there website for further details. Here's a pic

Here's the mud problem in the back after some high speed driving and before I added the extension to the MudBuster flares
