Spent the last week in Georgia at a Technician Competition competing and ofcourse schmoozing with some Honda guys we don't normally get to talk to.

We got on the topic of technical issues with some of the Techline guys who are more directly involved at the dealer level.

The 700 ground issue came up, apparently the ground inside the wheel well gets corrosion inside the wire sheathing several inches. They've had success stripping back to clean wire and attaching the eyelet.

Maybe something to look at if this issue happens to your machine.

Thanks for the info!

@Slackjaw

That's the sort of thing I was hoping would eventually come out. Not so much for me...as mine's been fixed for a while, but for those who are fighting it.
The only problem...I'm in AZ. More moisture from washing it than actual water in these parts...but anything's possible.

Maybe some corrosion in the eyelet for me, and the re-crimp fixed it? Or the extra grounds bypass it all together. Been a few years and thousands of miles at this point.

Why does Honda not protect that area from tire slung mud and water with a plastic shield?
….I’ve thought about fabricating something to protect that area.

The atvs have had the frame ground in the right side rear fender well for over 20 years now.

It's never been a problem for them, so maybe that's the reasoning

Honda did add an additional ground under the front passenger side fender at some point, maybe that's their solution. I know if that ground is loose the unit will idle but die when applying throttle. I've seen it on 2 units customers have installed their own winch and used that ground for the winch but didn't get it tight enough

I'm not sure, the wiring diagram shows an additional ground in 2018 added, but I don't recall seeing that ground under recently, like 2022 or 2023 models. It's easy to see, it's next to the regulator/rectifier under the front fender.

Yeah...I think we've talked about this a few times. Mines a 2020, and there is no ground up by the Reg/Rec unless it's VERY well hidden, so it must have been after that.

That's what I decided to do ... I had some plastic cardboard laying around so I cut out a piece and zip tied it... helps keep that area a little cleaner 👍
