I aligned my rear super ATV a arms today and went for a ride to check it out. Made it about 200' behind my shop, turned right and gassed it. Heard a loud pop and the motor rev'ed and wouldn't pull and rolled in park. Thought the tranny blew. Did not sound good! Got it back to the shop in 4wd. Found the rear driver axle had popped out of the diff. Guess it backed out lowering the suspension lower than the shock would go. Had to do some fileing but got it going.

Ouch!
Please explain filing. Is that your handy work on the end of the driveshaft or did that happen when it popped?
That c-clip looks messed up - you didnt re-use it did you.

Looking at the blue tint on some of the splines there was something going on in there. I wouldn't think it'd get hot enough in 200' to do that.

The end is all that was engaged. Pretty much sheared all the splines off. Couple of splines past the clip was mared. I did reuse the clip. Had to tweak it some...

Might think about getting another axel. Don't the missing splines hold the clip ring!

Those pics were before I cleaned it up. Wanted a spare anyway.... Don't know if their the same left and right yet. It looked like the clip was still hooked in pretty good. I did raise hell for 20 min after fixing and all seems to be OK. Moral of the story is check your axles if you droop the suspension farther than the shock will let it go! I've never had one pop out that I didn't have to pry or hammer out.

Scares me. That little clip in the ring gear will be thousands to repair! Good luck!

Glad it happened so close to your shop and not miles out in the woods. Have you priced an axle yet? Wondering how much they cost.

Looks like around $180. Different part numbers for left and right. The end by itself is $130.
