My only guess would be that the fronts leave a track in the mud that the rear tread pattern pushes off of.

Front tread pattern probably provides better steering stability and turning grip.

Rear probability provides better grip forward and reverse.

I would think so... if it did touch it would be on the drivers front under turned compression... nothing a sawzall can't fix.
