Been lurking for sometime. Looking for some advice. I am getting ready to buy a Talon in the next few weeks. I haven’t decided if I am gonna buy brand new or used. Depends on what I can find. I am the most interested in a 2 seater x. I will ride mostly Tennessee and Kentucky. I am a fairly okay mechanic. Previous sxs was a 2006 Kawasaki Terx. Been around the Pioneer 500 and quads. But not much else, If I go used are there any years or trims I should avoid? Anything’s I should be checking or looking out for? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks guys.

If you can find a used one that you trust how it was maintained, then you can definitely save a few pennies! We have a 2019 Talon with over 36,000 miles and others on here have over 40,000. But if you like the thought of only you owning it, then you also have the peace of mind that it will last a long time if maintained properly.

Personally I’d look for the updated steering rack. It was talked about a lot as a positive change. Maybe 2022’s but not the “S” models of the year which were still the same as the earlier model years. I’d have to go look but I’m sure others could confirm this or you can search it on here yourself.

Affirmative. 2022 non-S or 2023+.

Welcome from the Yoop! I'd recommend new if you can afford it, there's been a lot of improvements and you don't end up with something beat to schit! There are deals out there if you're willing to look.

I'd recommend a new one unless you personally know the person you're buying it from and they've taken care of it. New will have a 1 year warranty and if purchased from a reputable dealer, they'll make any issues right, especially in the first year. Others are correct about the steering, it's awesome on the new ones. Good luck and welcome from middle Tennessee.

If u want to save some bucks, a clean used machine is a great viable option. Yes the PS on gen 1 models is weak with larger tiires but it can be upgraded for under $1K via SuperAtV - and I guess there are ECU updates for the newer machines - but mostly the new models are the same as 2019 Gen 1.

Some of the new models have less than desirable showa shocks with no threads for ride height adjustment (cheap) and most report whether older or newer needing the 4 boingers revalved/resprung.

Good luck with your decision !!!!

i think something i like being available will be the issue. The local shop has a red black and white r there with a price of 24k. For a 2024 not the fox shocks and i do not think Showa ones are what I am looking for. They have it priced too high from what I am seeing.

The red/black/white is gonna be the Fox Live Valve model, as far as I know the only models w the Showas are the all black. @Hello_Darkness could confirm.
