Just a little update for everyone.
Made a ride there 12-30-21 just before the seasonal closure. Trails were in good condition. Controlled burns cleared out a bunch of underbrush and made for good visibility.
Forestry service is revamping Lotus Camp, where we usually park, and making it a nicer camping area with new tent boxes under construction now. This will no longer be a day use parking area. In the future we will probably still park here for the day and pay the $3 camp fee to have shade, toilets, a picnic table, and running water.

I thought there was a width limit there. Can I ride my P700 at Kisatchie?

There is a width limit of 50", if you get stopped. We've never been stopped for that. We pass other rangers and pioneers on the trails all the time! My talon X will fit on every bridge. I'd go ride!

Sandstone is closed Jan-April. Normally we will go to Camp Livingston during that time, except it's been closed from hurricane damage. Again, 50" limit but we've never even seen a park ranger there. The trees are tighter and you won't fit on ANY bridges there but you can go around all of them.

We like Sandstone the best because the trails are fast and mostly smooth and sandy.

I will definitely check them out. The width restrictions kept me away, but if they don't care...

Trail Update from 10-12-24 ride.

Made a ride Saturday with 2 Talons, 1 RZR 900 Trail, and 1 RZR 800. We passed NO ONE on the trail and the weather was nice! Quite a bit dusty but survivable. We did pass 4 hikers and a dog.

Park service has been bull dozing the trails starting from the 395 Day Parking Lot counter clockwise on the south loop. They appear to be adding water stops to reduce rain erosion. This is good because it's also widening the trails.

Bridges are in rough shape and need repairs.

The north loop has some very bad washouts that are 3 feet deep in some spots. Hopefully these will be repaired. People have rerouted the trails around these recently but those detours are not as obvious sometimes. This loop also had a LOT of down trees to go around. We moved 2 fallen dead tree tops off the trail because we couldn't get the Talons through the trees for a detour. The north loop has only seen a short section from the 395 day parking clockwise to the Lotus Camp turnoff. Other than that I don't think any work has been done to the north loop. The cut off trail was in OK condition with mostly washouts. Water stops that were fun to jump before were down right dangerous this trip due to washouts.

Sadly, this is the best sxs trail in the state and it's in crappy condition now. This is the worst I've ever seen the trail. Usually we can really haul through the trail but not this time.

Seasonal closure is January through April, but in reality, very seldom does the park service actually work on the trail during this time. They are "busy" watching the trees grow I guess.

I loved all the washouts, lol. Was a lot more fun than the flat track.
