The famous cathedral was seriously damaged by fire today, a huge loss to the French and the world. I have fond memories of visiting it first in 1993 and again in 2010. :(

I feel honored to have visited it in 1990. Really sad to see such an iconic structure so badly damaged

It’s amazing how those firefighters were able to crawl into the bell towers with a wooden infrastructure and keep them watered down so that they never burnt.:cool:

Theres been a bunch of churches in France being targeted, set on fire ect. I thought I read something like 18 since January 1st. The timing is really odd.
That’s true, but authorities were quick this afternoon to dismiss that. Of course that could change.

And .....apparently the media is blocking mentions that it may be a terrorist attack even though it was threatened a few days ago. It sucks but last I read no one was killed and the French May have had an opportunity to prevent it, along with the news the FD responded very slowly and could have possibly saved more of the building. Hard to really feel sorry for them with that information, but no matter what it’s a horrible loss for a historical building.

I was there in 2011. It's very sad to see so much irreplaceable beauty history and architecture destroyed.
