That time of the year is coming again, so I thought I would post up my fuse ignitor.
.
items needed:
- some form of handle, I used a 2' chunk of broom handle
- relay
- push button switch
- "nichrome wire", I think that is what it is called
..... I cut mine from a blower motor resistor out of a junk car
- alligator clips, to hold the "nichrome wire"
- cable and clamps to connect to 12volt battery
.
On to the pics

power plug on handle

.
push button on handle, I used a horn button

hooked to 12 volt battery, and button pushed

I really should make up a few more.
Every year everybody want to use my ignitor. No burnt fingers.
1) Hook to 12 volt battery
2) Push the button and wait a few seconds
3) When the wire glows red
4) Touch the fuse
5) After the fuse lights, let go of the button
.
Getting the "nichrome wire" the correct length takes some testing.
- to long, and it will not get hot enough to light the fuse
- to short, and it will burn up your wire if you hold the power button to long
.
Have a Safe 4th of July, and Have a good day
