I'm making a hitch mounted cargo basket for my 700. It's big enough to hold 2 Yeti Roadie coolers. Will be able to leave the tailgate down and have room to put a storage box between the back seats and the basket. Will post more pics when it's finished. Got the idea from a pic that @Rigit posted.

Just some advice. You have skills so save yourself some heartache by beefing up the hitch. The 700's are known for weak hitches especially if loaded upward. I think two loaded yeti's will bounce pretty hard and stress the weak design.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I'll come up with something. Hopefully will have time to finish it up Friday.

Beefed up the hitch today. Just have to get some paint on it. I went with 1" square tubing. Closed the ends off so mud won't get in there.

I think it looks like it was supposed to be there. Also welded the bottom of the hitch. I feel like if Honda welded the bottom at the factory it would solve most people's issues with them. The factory welds on each side were just barely starting to crack. Notice I corrected the towing capacity🤣

Got the hitch painted. Welded the top rail on the basket. Was going to put expanded metal around the sides but now thinking maybe I won't. Gonna have it finished up tomorrow.

Love that cargo basket! How much steel did you have to buy to make it, and what was the cost?

Thanks. I got 40' of the smaller square tubing which is 1/2" with 1/16" wall thickness. 5' of 2" square tubing with 3/16" wall thickness. That cost me $15. Don't think I quite used all 40' of the small tubing. I also bought some expanded metal which cost me $40. I bought it all from a local welding shop so I probably got a better price. Expanded metal was more than I thought it would be though. I'm also going to get one of those anti rattle hitch things so it won't bounce around in the hitch. I think those are around $15 on Amazon.
