Recommendations?
I like how the TA full skid has more drain holes than the SSS.
Also, noticed FUTV has skids as well.
Any input appreciated.

I like my trail armor skids but they are heavy and expensive. The drain holes work for great, I rarely have mud is packed in them like I did on my pioneer 700 that had SSS skids.

You should also ask @Delton about his aluminum skid plate. They are lighter and cheaper. As far as I know, he has been happy with them.

+1 for the Trail Armor, great kit and everything lined up perfect. I have the S&S roof and A arm guards as well and their stuff is nice too. I just like plastic better, as it slides over rocks and is less noisy. Aluminum skids reverberate in my experience and can amplify the noise.

I've got the FUTV 1/2" and it was easy to install and seems to work fine. I'd buy it again. I have no experience with the others so can't say one way or another on them. I think the FUTV has fewer holes, but I don't mud ride and like the extra protection provided by less holes/voids.

After several loud "THUNKS" on my last outing I am now thinking seriously about getting some type of skid plates as well. I was originally leaning towards just getting the Honda ones but I may just piggyback on your research. :)

I have owned all three brands mentioned, SSS, Trail Armor, & FUTV. I have been happy with each all were 1/2" thick. I do like the clean out holes personally but would recommend any of them. All boils down to price and preference.

Is one brand easier for changing oil?

When draining the transmission with my trail armor skid plate I have to make a funnel so it doesn't pour oil on top of the skid plate. There is a hole there for the oil drain but is not quite big enough

Which brand protects side frame rails best? Looks like TA hangs over just enough to let it slide over rocks without compromising lateral frame rail.

I can say the trail armor holes all worked great for everything but rear differential, I drilled a hole for it.

Huh, and I had no problem with the rear differential oil drain. Looks like there was some QA issues in the early production.

You are correct, the TA skids do hang over the rail about an inch to give you protection

I've liked the S&S aluminum skids so far. They don't stick out much past the frame rails but hasn't been a problem for me and I've been over some big rocks. Not many cleaning holes but again, hasnt been a problem (ride in mud often). I like the plastic models, I'm just old school and prefer metal. You can get them in any color you want. As mentioned, all comes down to personal preference. I do highly recommend getting one though. The stock unit is pathetically flimsy and not adequate to protect your investment imo.

Can the aluminum ones take the 1700 lbs bashing against a rock? Have you had it rest on the span from the rear step bar/frame rail to the main frame? That's the gap that concerns me being able to carry the weight. The a arms have awesome coverage. Also, whatsup with the square gap up front?

I just put my TA on last night and I am very pleased with the installation. Looks like all drain holes line up well and will not be a problem. They are thick, but I didn't think too heavy. Might get a ride tomorrow for some blackberry picking, will be my first, so we'll see how it goes.
