Hey guys, finally pulled the trigger on Elka's stage 3 shocks, pricey but from all the reviews worth it. I found some a while back that came off a P1000-5 but sold.

Just was looking for some advice on install or and tips that might help. I tried to look for similar threads but really couldn't find any. My 2018 P1000-3 has no mods all stock.

Thanks

They will be a great improvement over stock. I have them. My complaint, my own fault, is that my 30" tires bottom out in the rear pretty easy. I should have stuck with smaller tires.

You will like them, if and when you make adjustments, make them small a keep track of what you did. I've got a set.

Thanks for the responses guys, Yes, so looking forward to a better ride.

So just take the stock shocks off and put on the new ones as per Elka's instructions? Any initial measurements or anything before I put them on?

Thanks

Just put them on. Make sure they have some preload. Probably enough from the factory. Most people will say to set your sag and ride height but if the CV shafts are slightly above level drive it for a bit to let the springs settle maybe 10mi. Then set your ride height with the machine weighted to how you usually ride. Dont make any ajustments on the shocks until you get the springs where you want them. I would also check the clickers (adjustment settings before putting them on the SXS. Elka should have them set in the ballpark. I set mine in the middle because I know I will be changing it more than likely and I like to have a reference point

What I did... before installing the new shocks measure your ride height with the stockers. Adjust the new shocks to ride at the same height. With some riding they're going to settle and you'll have to adjust again. They may even settle again. Throughout this process you'll find a good shock setting for your preferred ride just by messing with them. At this point check the preload and if you have a lot left you can start to give it some lift. I found that I gained very little height but a much better ride.
These were Walker Evans and on a P500 but same concept.

You will enjoy them. They will be much better than stock. I would recommend knowing what the shocks are set at from elka. I am talking compression and rebound. How many clicks out or in. That way if you decide to start adjusting you have a reference point to return to
