Honda has issued us an ECM update to fix the overheating issue due to the fan not coming on.

It's not a recall, but is free if your still under your 30 month Emissions Warranty.

All 2016-2018 and some 2019 (no VIN range given yet).

The bulletin I saw on Facebook was 2017-2019. Why'd they leave out the 16. I've only had the no fan issue twice but it sucked both days.

Do you have a copy of the bulletin?

Correction: According to my paperwork this is only for 2017-2018 and certain 2019 models.

Apparently does not apply to 2016 models.

I can’t think of any I’ve heard of doing it on a 16 due to the ECM causing the fan to stop... most of the 16’s were trapped air or clogged rads. So it makes sense it could be 17 up due to the program changes in 17.5... Can anyone confirm the current fan issue on a pre 17?

Mine has had the fan not come on twice. The first time I cleaned the radiator a ton and didn't feel like it was clogged. I rode it another 200 miles and it did it again. After the second time, I put the nose way up and worked a bubble out of the radiator but the machine had 1700 miles on it so I'm not sure how or why it got air in the radiator. Either way both times it got 4 bars hot and the fan wouldn't turn on. My fan it wired to a switch now for auto or ON.

Is this a free update?
I think it is, you just need to complain to your dealer about overheating and no fan on. It's not a recall but a product update.( voluntary)

We plan on doing any 17-18 model (19 once the VIN range is released) regardless of customer request if a unit is brought in for whatever reason.

It's not even a Product Update, its just a Service Bulletin. It can only be done if your unit is under the original 30 month Emissions Warranty, which any 17 model should be. But I'd warrant a guess, that Honda would be hard pressed to deny it if you were outside.

Sorry you are correct it is a service bulletin. My dealer is talking about doing all the 17,18 new and any coustomers units when they come in.

I only saw mine run from the service waiting room to my trailer. They were having trouble with the shop laptop. So they pulled it into the lobby and used the desktop computer 20190202 163546 20190202 163528
