Multi CNC Plasma Table Discussion

My wife surprised with a retirement party this weekend. All the employees of the company I used to own all pitched in and purchased me a Langmuir XL plazma table with Plazma cutter. I have been comptinplating purchasing one of these for years.

So now the learning begins. I know there are a few members here with CAD and other software used to operating these type of tools.
Looking for any and all suggestions for upgrades, must have and helpfull things needed.
I am currently overdosing on Fusion 360 and Crossfire YouTube videos 😯

I have a crossfire pro that I use for my small business I’ve been steadily working on getting off the ground the past year. I find that I’m making more custom signs and the such vs ATV parts (which is the inverse of what I thought) .

I already had a lot of experience with 3d modeling and Cam from previous jobs so it was easy for me to pick up Fusion 360.

My advice is to keep it simple. You don’t need to have the perfect setup. I made my setup totally portable for my shop. I use simple tubing for the pan drain and a cheapo scotch brite pad for a screen on the drain.

Some people want their cutting table to be a show piece… mines functional and making money.

Probably the single most important thing to have is a strong volume of clean dry air for your plasma cutter. I have a precooler on my compressor, plus a water trap before and behind the tank, at the cutter I have a desiccant trap plus a motor guard M60 submicron filter.

I found this lab cart cart damaged on Amazon for $65 and I converted it into a cart for my cutter.

I put an air whip line on the cutter and welded my dessicant / regulator / M60 filter mount I made to the cart.

This way I can roll it with my table or use it with the hand torch to cut down oversized sheet.

I’m busy insulating my shop at the moment..you’ll have to excuse the mess but here’s my table and it’s super simple drain setup.

The last photo is showing a green scotch brite pad doubled over held down by the slat over the drain. It acts as a filter. I simply drain at night and dry clean the table in the morning. For the drains I used a super thin gasket and used extra washers on the bottom side to take up the difference. Simple ball valve with a hose barb drains the water into the two buckets.

The legs have the holders tack welded to the tubes and the casters threaded into the holders.

Thats an awesome idea, I will do something similar. I have a 80 gal. 7 hp 3 phase compressor. I do need to add some type of drying system.

Here’s how I modified my compressor.

Make sure to have your cooler piping larger than the intermediate tubing if possible, it will help slow the air velocity thru the cooler and keep the pressure on the compressor head in the normal range.

You may still want to run a wall cooling loop with a drain leg as well.
