Has anybody have issues with there plow cable winch?....mine has snap several times this winter when plowing snow, I even took it back to the dealer and replaced it with synthetic and still snap. I feel like heavy snow causes it to put pressure and tension on the cable itself and lifting the blade up.

What winch do you have? Were you using steel cable first, which snapped? The winch broke too, or just your line? How big is the plow? How much snow were you moving?

I have the warn winch I believe it's 4000lb. With a 72" warn blade
It's the cable line that keeps snaping and I was pushing a good bit. Around 9/10 inches on synthic line...but when I was pushung with the old steel cable it would snap on 3/4 in of snow. other wise the machine and winch itself is perfectly fine.

I have heard some people use a flat web boat winch strap or Snatch Strap. Buy one and you get 2 because you end up cutting the snatch strap in half.

Never plowed but throwing the idea out there. Seems way cheaper.

Had the same problem. you need this http://www.warn.com/atv/plows/plow_pulley.shtml Run cable down through pully and back up to strap Around upper bumper. Slows plow lift down for more control. lifts more up and down. My problems went away after adding this.

Nice, I will order that piece from warn. The mechanic at honda was very hesitant that he swore that none of his units he installed a winch has ever snap a line. I just didnt believe it.Alot of these dealerships just want don't want to hear your input. They're the one talking. Well THANK YOU for your guys input. I've owned honda power equipments for years. NOT ONE has failed yet. As long as you fallow proper guide lines. This was the first, really it's more of minor issue. But glad is a simple fix.

I went to local hardware store bought a pully attached it to an old winch hook I had with a chain link. couple of dollars. works good. just make sure the pully comes apart from the housing with a hair pin so you can run the cable through it.

My plow assembly, all warn and installed by the dealer, came with the pulley noted by elk hunter. The pulley aka a snatch block, is common to using a winch, each snatch block generally doubles the strength of the pull, while halfing the speed. Three loops or snatch blocks will triple the strength of the pull and reduce the speed again.
While there are winches that use straps, they are not inter-changible with cable winches, as the reels are different. Your better off using snatch blocks mounted correctly, than changing cables.

cable needs to be stretched before plowing

Had my P/4 in the shop for some Fabric doors and rear window. The shop guys snapped the winch cable holding the warn plow they had installed a month earlier. Found out from talking to the manufacturer that the cable needed to be pre-stretched before being used on the plow. The dealership covered it and stretched the new cable. None of us had ever heard of this before but we will see if the new "stretched cable" holds up.
My dealer, Honda powersports of Crofton has been great. For the first time they have P-4's on the show room floor.

plow cable set up using two pullys.

This set up should eliminate your cable breaking.

I noticed you guys have push bars on the front of your machines that allow you to do that set up. What if you don't have the push bar?
Thanks for the great info btw...

Bama,
You will then have to buy it or make it. Push plow consists of 3 major parts. Mount plate. Push bar, and Blade.
