Looks like we are headed that way sometime late this summer. Lodging seems rather limited to non existent unless you stay at one of the 3 Bear Lodge resorts - Bear Lodge, Elk View Inn, or Arrowhead...Any one with experience of the area and any suggestions otherwise? Also of note it looks like HWY 14, 14A, and HWY 16 are all no go for UTV without a state issued plate + the trail sticker??? Anyone confirm or deny this. I have reached out to South Dakota Lawrence County treasurer about getting a state plate as IOWA does not plate UTV's and it looks like Wyoming doesn't plate non-resident vehicles either.

Wyo will not plate a nonresident sxs.
You do need an ORV sticker, they're only like 5 bucks.

Limited, short distance or crossing highway travel will likely be tolerated, but not constantly.

Burgess Junction is pretty remote.
If you don't Stay in a nearby lodge, or plan on camping there, you might be towing back and fourth to Sheridan, which isn't far.

Time to update this thread... We completed our weeklong stay at "Bear Lodge Resort" Burgess Junction Wyoming early September.
We rented the "Loft" cabin and were pleasantly surprised - nothing fancy but definitely not the boars nest we figured :)
It turns out we showed up with opening youth archery season for Elk and Bear... we didnt see much at all for wildlife out and along the trails other than mule deer and a few pronghorns. Saw several moose each day but they were all within a few hundred yards of the highway (assume a protected zone from hunting). Nonetheless beautiful in nature.
Trails were all well marked and maps we used were Avenza, OnX, and Lifetime all pretty accurate to real conditions. We were really hoping to see some Aspen color change etc... but realized its really only Spruce trees there. We traveled between a 100-150 miles each day - alot of the trails were actually gravel roads connecting some dirt out and backs if that makes sense. You can cover some ground in a hurry. We all decided we would go back but maybe elect to go earlier in the year with more lush growth and water flowing (since no fall color is available) We would also probably stay up the road at Wyoming High Country Lodge next time as well - a little less chaotic location and more upscale perhaps - we enjoyed the trails near there much more than Bear Lodge area. Also stayed a sweet B&B @ Platte SD. "Molly's Manor" we have actually stayed there several time from previous trips. So if your coming from the East its a good layover spot
Moose video, the selfy is "Paradise falls a short 1/2 mile hike down to bottom and seemed like 4 miles straight up to get back ( I was gassed!)

That's beautiful scenery. It almost looks like a painting and not real.
No cars, no people just tranquility.

Glad y'all had a great adventure. Share more photos and continue to the next adventure.

My South Dakota plate got me everywhere and was suitable for riding down the highway as well. No permit/sticker needed. ( I verified this was correct from the Sheridan Co. Sheriffs office and received an official email back stating any plated vehicle can travel any roadway with few exceptions. They request you do the speed limit or as close as you can get!

Oddly enough my next adventure was on the sport touring motorcycle. We got home at 5:30 sunday evening. I unloaded the buggy and repacked my bags and left on the bike for Arkansas at 8am Monday! My wife is a real honey for letting me do that. I was actually exhausted after back to back's like that though. I got to get retired!
