Well I just had to replace my front brake pads at 155 miles... They were squealing pretty bad... put race driven sintered pads on now. We will see how long they last!

MS, I guess you ride in a lot of mud, that would be the only thing I can think of to wear your pads out so quickly?

You must have had the brake on the whole time... You should get way more miles. Something is not right there

Yeah tons of mud!
Bet the sintered will help, back in the day when I raced Enduros, I would take a hack saw and cut groves in my brake shoes to channel mud and water out, don't know if it really helped with the life span, but least I had brakes.

I got around 1,500 hundred miles on my stock front brake pads. At over 3,000 miles my rear brakes have never been changed yet.

I also got around 200 miles on my original 700 set.
Forget which aftermarket I chose but seemed to last longer.

You probable don't ride in as much mud as @William, mud is hard on everything, been there done that, got the tee shirt, but to each there own!

I don’t mud ride on purpose... But all the riding parks are centered around mud, and when I hunt there are mud holes... I wouldn’t say I use the brakes anymore than anyone else either. But the sand mixed with the mud is the killer...

I like your observation but where did you come up with that?
Because when I sold it with just under 9000 miles, the pads looked to be a bit over 1/2 worn out.

9000 x 2 = 18000, but consider they will get changed with probably like 1/16 of pad left, so figure 16000.

That's because your 700 didn't need breaks. It barely rolled on pushing the peddle.

Here in central Florida my pads last about 200 miles. We are a big sand bar after all. No real hills to speak of and during the rainy season I can go for over a mile in water. The sand/water mix just destroys the brake pads no matter what brand I get. I just buy the cheapest pads I can find and keep spares in the garage. The Big Red pads are identical but have about 20% more pad material.

Got my Volar sintered pads in today and the race driven pads have new backing plates, and a void cut in the pad for cleaning I guess... the packaging is better on the race driven too, which I don’t care about... the race driven pads are 42 bucks, and the volars are $22... I don’t see the race driven pads lasting 2 times longer than the volar pads. We will see I guess

I have a two step thinking process on this, sacrificial brake pads will increase the life of you disc's, but the cost of your new pads versus stock pads and disc's work out? Plus did you ever lose braking with stock pads?
