P1000 Best location for horn button

I will be installing a horn in my Pioneer 1000-5 to make it street legal. I am thinking of installing the horn button somewhere to the right of the steering column. I will use my dremel tool to cut the hole. Are there a bunch of wires anywhere behind the dash that I need to be aware of and avoid?

I have mine to the left of the steering column with the turn signals. I just used a utility knife to cut the holes.

There are a few but should be deep enough to avoid. Mine is in that area

I originally had my horn button mounted in the lower dash area to the left of the steering column. If you’re careful it is an easy install. Just take your time and don’t rush it.

Same here. Figured I use my right hand driving more anyway and if you pull the fender there is easy access if you need to put a nut on the back.

Likewise. Remove cupholder, easy wiring. More recently, changed th silver button out for a black one with blue backlight to match other switches. Horn is wired of Aux, always on . . . never can tell when you might be . . . naw, won't go there.

Originally had the horn and turn signal switches located to the left of the steering column

moved them to the right of of the steering column for better visibility of the turn signal indicator lights.

It looks like I have several options. Here in SD, we aren't required to have turn signals, so I won't worry about that button. Thanks for all of the suggestions

I want to upgrade mine to a setup like this. Can you tell us details? (Where you got the button, how to wire it without wire getting twisted etc?) Thanks! My button is currently between my steering column and my ignition switch. I'm tired of fumbling around for it in an emergency lol.

Steering wheel is just parts but to get horn working was custom. Wasn’t hard at all though. Just used a roller horn switch from old rig from wrecking yard. Ground a little to fit. Worked like a horn should

For a small, self contained air horn that is very loud, I use this one: Horn

It's got a self contained compressor and twin horns, but still small enough to fit in a tight space. I mounted mine inboard of the front wheel on the fender support strut using a bit of rubber hose and a SS hose clamp. Worked great! (Though, due to its small size, it is higher pitched than a "truck horn". )

Just aftermarket 6 bolt with adapter. Multiple companies now sell a bolt on setup but that wasn’t case 5 years ago so it took a little.

I am not a fan of drilling or carving into the stock dash, I just don't want to have an "ooops!" and need to repair it, or if I change something there is a left over hole.

I went with the center, so I can make my hole in the dash panel which I can replace, and the passengers have fun honking at the wildlife on the roads.

I don't think I would buy a horn kit when you can buy a horn and a button of your choice on Azon and do the wiring yourself if you have the know how. They are so easy to do!

Horn button is on upper left. I bought the Corbin Works turn signal kit and did not follow those instructions as I put the rockers in the center. I know it goes against how we drive a car but the blinker in the center is handy, I normally steer with my left hand anyway.
