I was at my Honda dealers yesterday looking at tires. The more expensive tire was 8 ply non radial, for 10 bucks less you could get a different brand with similar tread in 8 ply radial.

The manager had me pick up each tire, and the steel belted radial was 30 + pounds while the non radial was half that or less.

The guy said the radials would be harder on the axles of the P1k due to the extra weight, plus harder for the engine to turn.

Thus my question radials or non radials? Why?

I think it depends on what type of riding you do. For trail riding a radial tire will have better traction, and corner better. In deep mud a lighter tire will turn easier. I mostly trail ride, like radials, I run less air pressure, that allows the whole tread surface to contact the trail, and rides smoother.

Just back from a ride in the P1K ....while out I noticed the bighorn tire says it's a radial. I did not realize that when I created this thread. Duh.

Watch Video: 3:55 talks about the build of the tire.
The build of the tire was interesting, sidewall info was lacking. The EFO Black water has a much stiffer side wall than a set of almost new EFX's I have. The side walls on the EFX 8 ply bulge big time at 12 PSI, the EVO's 8 ply at 8 PSI barely bulge, both are radial. Seems like a side wall rating is in order!

Another important note is that there is no standard regarding how ply rating is assessed. Each company can do it their own way.

Well I do believe the Evo's are going to serve me well, they don't slide like the stockers or the EFX's, but I like how they push you forward instead of sideways.
