Have a 14 700-4 replaced the starter and starter torque gear still nothing but a grinding noise any help would be appreciated leaning towards one way bearing. Motor turns over fineness using crank bolt no tightness, grinding or binding

Do you have any more information? Are you getting spark? Are you getting fuel? Is the air filter clean? What are the symptoms?

Yes have fuel, spark, compression, replaced starter torque gear, tried new starter didn’t help, my main thought is the one way starter bearing have one on its way along with another new starter. Took old starter apart and all magnets were busted

Could it be the new starter is bad too? Or possibly a low battery?

More information is needed to help you diagnose.

You wrote, "nothing but grinding noise." Does starter gear engage the flywheel? Does the engine rotate when starter turns but not run?

What's the history? Has it been sitting unused for a long time? Inside or outside storage? How long have you owned it? When was last time it was run? What happened? Did it stop running while in use or was it parked in good condition? Accident? Submerged in water?

having the same issue with the starter.

i ordered a new one from Amazon, a "NICHE" brand. It wouldn't fit as the diameter of the shaft housing was bigger than OEM.

Part number is the same 31200-hn8-003

anyone else have this issue?

I ordered a different starter to try should be here by weekend. Has 10500 miles been serviced and maintenance done regular rode it to feed went to start it and all it would do is grind took starter off and stater gear on inside of case was running oblong like clutch was out so replaced it holding that wasn’t problem but made no difference owned it since new in 2014 hasn’t been abused just starting to show wear on some parts such as tie rods brake calipers do not sure what would be in motor that would also be a wear item tried to upload video of noise but says file to large

I'm still unclear on symptoms.

I think you're saying engine not turning over but starter is grinding. That sounds like starter solenoid is not pushing the starter gear against the flywheel to mesh with ring gear. Could be weak battery, failed starter solenoid, worn out starter, or damaged starter gear or flywheel ring gear.

I would buy a new OEM Honda starter and make sure battery is charged and strong.

Amazon may not be best source for parts.

These machines have a constant mesh starter, no bendix.

The flywheel has a one way bearing that allows the gear to freewheel when running. But the 700 also has a small "clutch" device that engages the starter to the larger gear. Im not sure why, maybe for torque amplification.

Thanks. All new to me. I'm old and low tech in a high tech world.

That symptom sounds like bad gas. You might try running Chevron premium high-octane gas or fuel injector cleaner through it.

I bought a used boat with a Honda motor a couple years ago. Same symptoms. The local boat dealer cleaned the carburetors with a harsh cleaner and cured it.

Thank a politician for ethanol!

Took valve covers off and little to none movement on exhaust valves so guessing the cam is bad so going to get one ordered and replaced
