I purchased my 1000-5 from a dealer that sales numerous brands about 4 weeks ago. I called Friday about pricing and scheduling my 100 mile service. I was given a price of over $900 and I believe I was told that didn’t include parts. However if I purchased a 2 year service contract it would only be $370 including parts.

I then called a Honda only dealer and was given a price of $325 + parts for the same service without a service contract.

I know labor cost is going to vary by region but what should I expect to pay for the 1st 100 mile service?

You probably won't find a dealer do it any cheaper than $325. Oil and filters is less than $100.

After doing research on what all is done one the 100 mile maintenance I figured $325-400 was a fair price. The $900 was kind of a shock. I guess they are doing that to force you into a maintenance agreement.

I bought a used 2015 500. Ready to take it in for service and since I don't know the history of the machine I asked to do all service for 1300 miles as if nothing had been done. They quoted me $1400? WTF? I called back just now and asked if they had a service contract I could purchase, and he said, 'you know, I'm not sure but I'm curious now so let me check into it'.

Sounds excessive. This dealer is like a quarter mile from me and I'd love to give them the business, but man, $1400?

I know you have 1000, but from my 520 first service:

Oil = Honda Pro GN4 Motor Oil - 10W30-1 Gallon - $30.72 amazon
Filter = Honda 15412-HM5-A10 Oil Filter - $5 from dealer ($8 on amazon)
Diff fluid = ROYAL PURPLE MAX GEAR 75W140 Quart BOTLE - $21.49 amazon
Diff fluid flow tool = FloTool 10106B/6 Spill Saver Trans Fluid and Gear Oil On-Off Filler Refill - $3.83

$61.04 + 2ish hours of time (way less after doing it the first time)

I talked to the dealer before doing the first service and was asking about checking the valves...service guy said very rarely do the valves ever need adjusted. I just took the chance and did everything myself besides the valve check.

All of it was straight forward and easy...coming from a guy that cant seem to get screws off without stripping them 🤣

I agree. I know a Honda dealer in Illinois. I asked him about the valve adjustment. He said that he knows of several folks that have several thousand miles on their Pioneer 1000's and have never had valve adjustments, and no problems. You gotta remember...dealers are in business to make money.

Pioneer 1000 and Talons rarely need valve adjustments.

P500 and 700 almost always need them
Ugh… really? I wonder why? Now I’m concerned about my valve clearance. Maybe the next oil change I will look at adjusting the valves to be in spec.

I agree. I personally know the owner of a Honda dealer. I asked him about this. He told me that he knows of several people that have Pioneer 1000's with several thousands of miles that have never had the valves adjusted. Just say'n

Hello everyone new guy here and new owner of a P1K5. Approaching 100 miles and ordering stuff for service. Looking at the maintenance schedule I’m only noticing the eng/Dct oil & filter needing to be replaced but I’ve seen people changing the front and rear final gear oil. My manual just says check not replace. Is it best to just replace it as well? Thanks

What you read is correct.

Most of us just like to do it in addation.
Subtransmission also.
Your decision.

Not required. Some do just because. I recently did my 100 mile service (a few miles overdue). Drain & replace oil, engine oil filter and DCT filter. Just checked everything else per the manual. GTG for another ~500.
